COMPANY DESCRIPTION: Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. POSITION SUMMARY: The Learning Center Instructor will implement and facilitate daily instructional activities and learning plans designed to support adult learners in achieving academic success, personal growth, and social-emotional development. They will regularly review curriculum and student work, incorporating current education and recovery trends informed by research and practical experience. They will play a vital role in adapting learning plans to meet the unique needs of each learner and their program, actively engaging with guests to support their academic progress and overall fulfillment. This role will combine educational planning, coordination, instruction, and counseling, working closely with life transformation and emergency service teams to foster holistic growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitate classes and learning sessions as directed by the Learning Center Director.
- Oversee daily operations during Learning Center open hours, classes, and calendared events.
- Interface with various levels of computer, reading, and learning literacy as a supporter, guide, and interventionist.
- Understand and articulate instructional pedagogies and methodologies, especially in a faith-based context.
- Lead and plan instruction, organization and scheduling of curriculum, assessments, tests, and surveys.
- Maintain respectful and informative communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend relevant meetings and prepare case notes and feedback on student progress and attendance.
- Foster a growth mindset with guests regarding their educational needs, histories, and goals.
- Coordinate volunteer tutors, general sessions, and workshops to support program objectives.
- Assist with enrollment and attendance processes with partnering schools, job training, and other programs.
- Conducts other tasks and projects assigned by the Learning Center Director.

- Required manual dexterity for occasional reaching and lifting small objects, and operating office equipment.
- Regular movement includes standing, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to lift curricular materials, books, devices, whiteboards, and other equipment, as needed.
- Must be able to lift at least 25lbs.
- Travel, as required.

- Indoor classrooms, office setting, and occasional off-site activities.
- This position predominantly works indoors in a high traffic office setting.
- Noise levels are considered low to moderate, with regular interruptions and inquiries.
- Occasional same day work between site locations, partner sites, and program functions.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Minimum 3 years’ teaching experience.
- Teaching Credential, or Teaching Permit, or Graduate work in Education, required.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid California Driver’s License.
- Must meet eligibility requirements to be added to URM’s auto insurance.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), a plus.

- Proficiency in office productivity software (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, etc.)
