COMPANY DESCRIPTION: Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. POSITION SUMMARY: The Jobs Program Representative supports Union Rescue Mission (URM) program participants by conducting career assessments, facilitating skills development, and assisting with job placement. This position facilitates document recovery, resource coordination, enrollment, and the development of employment programs and partnerships. The Jobs Program Representative collaborates closely with Life Transformation and Emergency Service teams to promote continuous learning, skill advancement, and long-term employment outcomes for Learning Center participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and maintain expertise in current career and job readiness assessment tools. 
  • Provide job coaching and career readiness services through both scheduled appointments and drop-in sessions. 
  • Conduct needs assessments and create individualized learning plans for groups and individuals. 
  • Coordinate and deliver training sessions or workshops focused on marketable skills development. 
  • Document participant progress with detailed notes after each service to track advancement toward goals outlined in their development plans. 
  • Offer career counseling focused on assessment, job preparation, job search strategies, and employment transitions. 
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with industries aligned with participant needs and job market opportunities. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers and service providers to expand job program opportunities. 
  • Monitor apprenticeship placements and track participant progress and performance across various programs and departments. 
  • Attend meetings and events as required. 
  • Prepare notes and feedback on participant job progress and attendance. 
  • Collaborate closely with case managers and chaplains to support participant success in reemployment efforts. 
  • Oversee daily Learning Center operations during open hours, including classes and scheduled events. 
  • Prepare quarterly progress reports for program participants. 
  • Maintain respectful, clear, and informative communication with internal teams and external stakeholders. 
  • Conducts other tasks and projects assigned by the Learning Center Director.

  • Required manual dexterity for occasional reaching and lifting of small objects, and operating office equipment. 
  • Regular movement includes standing, walking, and sitting. 
  • Ability to lift curricular materials, books, devices, and other equipment, as needed. 
  • Must be able to lift at least 25lbs.  
  • Travel, as required.   


WORK ENVIRONMENT: In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.   • Indoor classrooms, office setting, and occasional off-site activities. 
  • This position predominantly works indoors in a high traffic office setting. 
  • Noise levels are considered low to moderate, with regular interruptions and inquiries. 
  • Occasional same day work between site locations, partner sites, and program functions. 

 

Requirements

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience in recruiting and/or job placement. 
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and training individuals. 
  • Strong knowledge of the local employment market, including job search techniques and interview skills. 
  • Previous experience working in a social services organization, preferred. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility requirements to be added to URM’s auto insurance policy. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong communication skills across written, verbal, online, and virtual platforms. 
  • Proficiency in office productivity software such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. 
  • Ability to motivate and monitor participant engagement and performance in learning and job readiness activities. 
  • Effective at collaborating proactively and persuasively within and across teams. 
  • Skilled at building rapport and working effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and across diverse cultures. 
  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, including leading projects, when required. 
  • Adaptable to changes in the organizational structure and external environment. 
  • Familiarity with City, State, and Federal employment laws, regulations, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) requirements. 
  • Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
