Job Summary/Description:
WBRC FOX6 News has a rare opening for a full-time Meteorologist to join our elite First Alert Weather Team. This position will primarily cover our weekend PM newscasts, with additional responsibilities covering shifts during the week. The role also includes producing daily content for our streaming weather show, First Alert Weather Extra.
We are looking for a dynamic, engaging, and creative storyteller who can help us continue to set the standard for severe weather coverage in Central Alabama. The ideal candidate thrives on teamwork, innovation, and delivering the weather story in ways that resonate across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms.
Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Forecast, produce, and present weather segments for weekend PM newscasts and First Alert Weather Extra.
• Provide live coverage and clear, urgent communication during severe weather events.
• Fill in for other meteorologists’ shifts during the week as needed.
• Create and publish compelling content across digital, social, and streaming platforms.
• Collaborate with other meteorologists and producers to ensure continuity and accuracy in weather storytelling.
• Utilize the latest weather technology and graphics platforms to deliver engaging presentations.
• Mine social media and other sources for weather story ideas and audience engagement opportunities.
• Support breaking weather coverage, often outside of normally scheduled shifts.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related field.
• At least 3 years of on-air meteorology experience with a proven track record covering severe weather events.
• Strong on-air presence with the ability to communicate complex meteorological information in a way that’s clear, urgent, and relatable.
• Proficiency in weather graphics and digital publishing tools.
• Flexible schedule and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Shooting and editing skills.
