A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A JOB COACH

As a Job Coach, you provide direct support services to adults with developmental disabilities working through the Goodwill Group Supported Employment (GSE) Program.  Job Coaches are also part of the Goodwill retail site management team.  Job Coaches work primarily in the back of the store and are responsible for the production of textile with the GSE team.   The ideal candidate will provide individual support and encouragement to Program Participants, through a variety of methods, to help them improve their job skills, soft skills, and move to less restrictive work environments.

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CAREER DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

The successful candidate will have a minimum of six (6) months experience working with people with developmental disabilities and/or six (6) months of Goodwill store retail experience.  You must possess or be able to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Card, along with other required trainings.  Candidate must have the skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all individuals, along with the ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.  The ability to read, write and speak English; bilingual a plus! The position may require travel and transfers to all Goodwill sites as necessary.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Know and demonstrate company values at all times. 
  • Obtain all necessary trainings and skills required to transition to a Job Coach I within 90-days.  
  • *Train Program Participants working in GSE teams.
  • *Model appropriate behavior for Program Participants.
  • *Monitor and document individual Program Participant performance.
  • *Work as part of an interdisciplinary team focusing on best practices to improve Program Participant soft and hard skills.
  • *Work in collaboration with the retail store/job site to help meet the needs of the retail team and effectively lead the program participants to do the same.
  • *Provide pertinent and timely information to the appropriate GSE Staff for Program Participant meetings/IWRP. 
  • *Maintain accurate and timely documentation including, but not limited to: daily time cards, progress notes, case notes, pre-teaming, monthly checklists, and handbook/participant rights reviews.
  • *Complete and submit time cards in an accurate and timely manner.
  • *Be familiar with Program Participant’s individual needs as presented in their IWRP.
  • *Implement the IWRP using methodology from the interdisciplinary team and work toward stated goals and objectives. 
  • *Submit monthly progress reports accurately and on time. 
  • *Maintain CARF compliance as applicable, through the use of procedures, checklists and trainings as directed.   
  • Maintain strong communication with the GSE Management team.
  • Be an active, positive, and effective member of the store team. 
  • Follow all GISA safety rules, including day to day practices and reporting procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding GISA and the individuals it serves.
  • Follow procedures established in the Kaizen Manual and Detailed Task Analysis.
  • Responsible for adaptive equipment identified for Program Participant workspace needs is being utilized
  • Assure high standards of production output: quality and quantity.
  • Transport self to, and attend regular on and off-site meetings.
  • Assist in other areas as requested by the Store Manager/GSE Management staff

 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Display work habits of regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability, and promptness.
  • Actively promotes safety and loss prevention policies and reports issues immediately.
  • Respond to incoming calls and emails with a positive demeanor. 
  • Attends and participates in monthly meetings, as required.
