ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Engineering and the Engineering Supervisor to ensure proper handling of the day-to-day operations, maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment, while supporting the Shore Hotel’s guest satisfaction goals, cost control, and profitability. This position will act as the Manager on Duty while the Director of Engineering is not available. This position is also responsible for overseeing and participating in the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program, ensuring that all rooms and public spaces meet Shore Hotel standards.
- Understand all building-related systems and equipment. Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, laundry, pool, etc.
- Flexibility and availability to cover work shift emergencies when needed
- Answer and respond to all phone calls and any emergency calls
- Must uphold the department and company standards of uniform and grooming compliance
- Exhibits dependability by consistently arriving on time, adhering to scheduled work hours, and fulfilling full shift responsibilities without disruption.
- Demonstrates effective communication by clearly conveying information, actively listening, and fostering open and respectful dialogue with all team members and managers.
- Assign and monitor work projects as given by the Director of Engineering
- Maintain work in HOTSOS to efficiently assist in projects in a timely manner
- Ensure the mechanical inspection log is reviewed every day, and issues are followed up on in a timely manner
- Assist in managing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual engineering labor hours
- Assist in all preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment/projects, discussed with the Director of Engineering before conducting any PM tasks
- Manage staff work schedules and post when accurate, and upon approval by the Director of Engineering
- Establish, implement, and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule
- Assist in monitoring and controlling parts and materials
- In collaboration with the Director of Engineering, participate in employee selection process, staff training and development, including counseling/discipline of Shore employees according to Shore Hotel policies and procedures
- Communicate with the Director of Engineering regarding all aspects of engineering operations
- Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics, which inspire employees to meet and exceed standards
- Maintain all recordkeeping process and systems
- Manage to ensure that all life systems are operational and meet all requirements
- Fulfill all risk control duties as assigned
- Uphold safety EPA, HazCom procedures in the department
- Inspect and document physical plant, equipment, hazards, systems and general engineering operation
- Maintain all work areas clean and organized
- Maintain documentation with reference to all mechanical operations of equipment
- Promote employee empowerment
- Report all unsafe conditions immediately to the Director of Engineering/Engineering Manager
- Respond to all life systems alarms
- Assist in prioritizing all work requests ensuring handling of guest issues, staff issues and inner hotel challenges
- Perform in the capacity of any position supervised
- In collaboration with Director of Engineering conduct staff work performance appraisals
- Attend all mandatory meetings
- Perform other duties/tasks as assigned

EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years of hotel, institutional, HVAC systems experience is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years previous management or supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, life safety systems, preventative maintenance systems and all engineering-related disciplines
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business/Management is highly preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- 3 years of supervisory/management experience
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:
- Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
- Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
- Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Regular and on-time attendance is critical
- Hours occasionally exceed 40 hours per week
- Flexibility in working other work shifts as needed/necessary
- Ability to stand during shifts
