General Summary
The Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic III is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and assembling diesel- and gasoline-powered mobile equipment. Core tasks include preventive maintenance services, brake jobs, tire replacement, and major component repairs. Work is performed under general supervision, with the ability to carry out routine duties independently using standard practices and procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Report unsafe conditions and actions immediately to supervisor or Safety & Health Manager.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area in compliance with Sunrock, MSHA, and OSHA standards.
Maintenance & Repairs
Perform repairs identified on operator inspection forms.
Follow company and manufacturer preventive maintenance and inspection guidelines.
Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform diagnostics on equipment to determine malfunctions and plan repairs.
Overhaul gas and diesel engines and major power train components using current technical information.
Test-drive equipment to verify and confirm successful repairs.
Technical & Support Functions
Assist fellow mechanics as needed.
Research technical information and requisition parts.
Fabricate lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices based on blueprints or schematics.
Support parts inventory management.
Complete all required paperwork and maintain accurate labor, parts, and work records in the Computerized Maintenance Management Information System (CMMIS).
Complete assigned technical training modules and programs.
Required Skills & Abilities
Proficiency in maintenance and inventory software; ability to input and retrieve data.
Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic procedures using manufacturer software and hardware.
Solid understanding of preventive maintenance, inspection procedures, filtration, fluids, and fluid analysis.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently when needed.
Intermediate knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, components, and repair concepts.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required.
Certificate or degree from a two-year technical school preferred.
5–10 years of related experience and/or training required.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required.
