General Summary
The Mobile Truck Technician plays a critical role in servicing and maintaining Sunrock’s fleet, ensuring trucks and equipment operate at peak performance. This position is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, preventive maintenance, and inspections on diesel- and gasoline-powered mobile equipment.
The incumbent will work under general guidance but has autonomy to plan, schedule, and carry out tasks to meet objectives within established policy guidelines. This role requires strong mechanical expertise, problem-solving skills, and good judgment.
Typical schedule: 10 hours/day, 5 days/week, with Saturdays as needed
Overtime is a regular part of the schedule
Reports directly to the Fleet Manager
May support multiple shop and field locations, including the Wrenn Road site
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform on-road repairs at the Wrenn Road site and shop-based maintenance under supervisor direction
Conduct inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on mixer trucks, dump trucks, trailers, and related equipment
Diagnose malfunctions using manufacturers’ software, tools, and testing equipment
Complete operator-reported repairs and preventive maintenance tasks according to company and manufacturer standards
Lead and support fellow mechanics; provide technical guidance and assist with part requisitions
Research technical information and fabricate equipment components (hydraulic systems, towing attachments, shields, etc.) from blueprints or schematics
Overhaul diesel and gasoline engines and major power train components
Test-drive equipment to confirm repair quality and functionality
Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, and completed work in the Computerized Maintenance Management Information System (CMMIS)
Assist with inventory management of parts and supplies
Complete assigned technical training and certification programs
Required Skills & Abilities
Proven experience as a Mobile Truck Technician or in a similar heavy-equipment repair role
Advanced mechanical knowledge gained through formal training or extensive field experience
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex issues independently
Familiarity with manufacturers’ diagnostic software and hardware
Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance, fluids, filtration, and machine diagnostics
Computer proficiency, including email, spreadsheets, and maintenance/inventory software
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
Effective communicator and team player with leadership qualities
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Certificate or degree from a two-year technical school preferred
10+ years of related experience and/or training required
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License (required)
