Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Scientist or Geologist with excellent interpersonal skills to join our Arcadis Resilience Team. This position will be based out of our Lexington, KY office. This full-time position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills. Role accountabilities:
Responsibilities will include a combination of field and office related tasks and may include travel for extended periods.
Office responsibilities may include the following:
- Writing and preparation of reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda,
- Preparing cost estimates,
- Data management (compilation, manipulation, and evaluation of data),
- Conducting project related research (historic data, regulations, etc.),
- Preparing periodic status/program reports, and
- Contacting regulatory and municipal agencies and subcontractors/vendors to coordinate field activities and obtain project-related information.
- Must be proficient with MS Word and MS Excel to prepare technical reports and spreadsheet data entry.
Field activities may include the following:
- Oversight of drilling operations (installing monitoring wells and soil or rock descriptions)
- Soil, groundwater, and air sampling in compliance with State and Federal standards
- Implementation of injection or other in-situ based remedial technologies
- Oversight of system remedial system installations
- Subcontractor oversight
- Aquifer testing
- Use a variety of specialized equipment or techniques to perform duties, acting as a project resource to support the successful delivery of specific outputs individually or as part of a team
- Carry out a range of remediation and/or sampling and/or monitoring activities as directed and in accordance with relevant Health and Safety or other operational standards
- Collect complex data from multiple sources, working under own initiative, to support 'specialist' project delivery
- Prepare and complete standard project documentation that meet company and client requirements and complies with national or local standards and codes of practice
- Develop and maintain technical skills and knowledge (e.g., regulations, standards and codes of practice) to ensure ongoing personal effectiveness
- Resolve issues and problems encountered in line with specified procedures and personal competence, maintaining effective communication with the client and/or project team members and escalate promptly to the relevant senior team member when necessary and to ensure work is completed efficiently and accurately and meets client expectations
- Develop an understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis and of client businesses to enable personal performance improvement and career development
- Identify and suggest improvements to operational procedures to support continuous improvement in service delivery, quality and efficiency
While this position requires both field and office work, the candidate should expect to spend 80% of their time in the field. Candidates must have a good driving record, be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media (e.g., soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, etc.) that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work, including lifting heavy equipment, working in a standing position for extended periods of time, etc.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- BS in environmental science, geology, engineering, or related field or equivalent years' experience
- 1 year of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience
- Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 HR / 8 HR training
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Professional certification

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $57,786- $92,457. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
