About the Department
Position Duties
- Investigating traffic accidents
- Testifying in court
- Demonstrating a working knowledge of state law, municipal ordinances, codes and legal procedures relating to the operations of vehicles and criminal reporting procedures
- Evaluating information, collecting logs, and maintaining a chain of custody for evidence.
- Using appropriate oral and written communication to prepare reports
- Interacting with City staff and the public, and responding to calls for service
- Maintaining equipment; and inspecting accident investigation vehicles
- Providing traffic direction and control
- Assisting disabled vehicles
- Identifying and arranging for removal of abandoned vehicles that obstruct roadways.
**This part-time position works less than 20 hours per week or less than 936 hours/year and is not eligible for benefits.**
Minimum Qualifications
Requirements:
Associate’s Degree or higher and minimum one (1) year of related experience working as an accident investigator or a law enforcement officer.
OR
High School Diploma and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience working as an accident investigator or a law enforcement officer.
Other Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License.
Skill in understanding and interpreting complex regulations and guidelines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Exerting up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will primarily work in a vehicle and outdoors.
