About the Department
Play a key role in keeping our city running smoothly by ensuring essential parts and supplies are always on hand for water renewal facilities (wastewater treatment plants) and other municipal utilities. In this position, you’ll be the go-to resource for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory that keeps critical equipment and operations working without interruption. The job combines hands-on problem-solving with professional procurement and tracking responsibilities, offering a balance of independence and team support under general supervision.
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4 years of experience in warehouse, inventory and procurement,
- or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Valid state-issued driver's license.
- Obtain forklift certification within 30 days of employment.

Position Duties
Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of handling moderately complex issues and problems, and provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, as needed.
Works with various facility groups to identify equipment and parts requirements to obtain desired results. Provides information to managers and supervisors regarding purchasing procedures and product information. Corresponds with vendors to obtain information about products, prices, availability, warranties and delivery schedules required for continual operations, repair and regulatory compliance of municipal utility infrastructure.
Provides resource level information and assistance to internal customers. Tracks all aspects of the purchasing process. Develops strong working relationships with vendors. Prepares purchasing requests as outlined by the city’s purchasing guidelines. Maintains documentation specific to purchasing transactions and ensures filing of such in accordance with relevant laws and city regulations.
Writes bid specifications and makes recommendations for materials to be purchased. Creates purchase orders, obtains purchase authorizations and reconciles purchasing card transactions. Receives incoming items and stores or distributes them accordingly. Manages procurement records and documents. Coordinates contractors and services for maintenance and operations.
Maintains warehouse inventory and related tasks including database entry, monitoring inventory levels, shipping and receiving of inventory, and completing expenditure reports and annual audits. Utilizes a forklift to move warehouse inventory. Maintains material safety data information (SDS) in compliance with materials handling requirements and regulations. Organizes warehouse space and layout and keeps warehouse secure, safe and clean. Trains staff on the use of inventory database and barcoding systems. Creates reports to analyze inventory and expenditures. Conducts annual audit and participates in internal or external audits.
Assists maintenance, operations and engineering staff on projects and maintenance operations. Assists with life-cycle and end-of-life timelines of equipment and supplies. Assists with capital and equipment purchases as requested by section managers. Monitors and reorders regular operation and emergency fuel stores and maintains spill control supplies and timed fuel island inspections. Orders and distributes uniform clothing and safety equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Additional Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Knowledge of:; general office procedures and protocols; inventory management methods; tools, processes and techniques of procurement and materials handling; computer usage including related software; and standard warehouse operation and storage techniques.
Ability to:; understand complex mechanical systems; interface with customers, vendors and suppliers; interpret rules and regulations related to purchasing and bid specifications; apply warehousing procedures in resolving problems; maintain confidentiality with sensitive documents or information; operate a forklift safely and efficiently; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Five years of experience in warehouse, inventory and procurement with at least two years of experience or training in the procurement of industrial and mechanical inventory.
One year of experience with computer-assisted procurement and warehouse management applications.
Knowledge of mechanical, technical, plumbing and electrical construction and maintenance.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds, occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and rarely pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate and rarely loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk and hear. Work in this position also includes close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.Additional physical efforts include: forklift operation.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals.
