About the role
In this newly created role reporting to our Data Science and Insights Manager, you will be accountable for designing and deploying machine learning models that drive real business value.
The Lead Data Scientist will effectively use their technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that directly contribute to revenue growth, cost optimisation, customer experience, risk management and operational efficiency.
In addition, you will:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced predictive models, machine learning algorithms, generative AI capabilities and statistical analyses that support business decision-making and customer experience at scale.
- Act as subject matter expert lead for the organisation on all things data science, coaching and training team members in this area, maintaining a contemporary, industry-leading knowledge of tools, systems & use cases.
- Manage, mentor, and junior data scientists, empowering them to deliver high-impact projects and contribute to business value.
- Deliver measurable business outcomes, ensuring that the data science & insights team's contributions translate into quantifiable return on investment (ROI) of bottom line business value
- Ensure insights and models are deployed live in practice, influencing business change to ensure quantifiable results are achieved in practice.
About You
Alongside your technical experience and capabilities, you’ll be a skilled communicator who can take your stakeholders on the data and insights journey and work collaboratively with all members of our business.
You are commercially focused with the ability to correctly assess the impact of decisions on business outcomes, with capability in the following areas:
- A Master’s degree or higher in Data Science or a related field.
- 5+ years leading data science teams and operationalising models.
- A track record of delivering improved annual business value through data-driven strategies.
- Expertise in predictive modelling, machine learning, generative AI, and statistical analysis.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience in Snowflake and BI tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Familiarity with software engineering practices (Git, CI/CD) and deploying models with monitoring and alerting.
- Proven ability to influence business change and mentor high-performing teams.
