Job Summary:
Under moderate supervision a Refrigeration Technician 2 is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and examining the ammonia refrigeration, and in some cases boiler, and air systems. This role requires performing preventative maintenance to said systems, and the willingness to respond to any system interruptions and have the flexibility to be on call to conduct emergency repairs. Must be able to work and communicate with a diverse variety of individuals, including fellow technicians, supervisors, clients and assist with upkeep of critical documents.
Essential Position Functions:
1. Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration, and in some cases boiler, and air systems; as well as Process Safety Management (PSM), is required.
2. Supports both the PSM and Refrigeration team to maintain all PSM, Refrigeration and Safety documentation retention. (SOP’s, LOTO’s, and P&ID’s)
3. Maintains PMs of refrigeration system, and in some cases boiler, and sir systems.
4. Confer with operators and observes, tests, and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose root cause of malfunction.
5. Disassemble machinery and equipment to make repairs.
6. Perform daily chemical testing and logging all test results, adjusting required to maintain refrigeration & utility system within established limits.
7. Periodic use and maintenance of fitted full face respirator.
8. Assists with inventory control.
9. Regular attendance and punctuality are required due to working within a small department, as people, items, and equipment at our facilities depend on us.
10. Other duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Technical degree in preferred.
• Must have 2-4 years of experience. Be able to perform task with little or no assistance and or supervision.
• Must have Ammonia Operator I.
• Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience helpful.
• Required to be able to pass and maintain annual medical and pulmonary fit tests for respirator use.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• English/Spanish bilingual is a plus.
• Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and Process Safety Management (PSM) is required.
• Use of technology such as computers, mobile devices, etc. preferred.
• Refrigerated food manufacturing plants.
• Must be able to perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, and moving around the systems.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
• The environment may be wet or dry and temperatures may range from -20°F to 110°F.
• Repetitive pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending and lifting objects in excess of 80 lbs.
• Requires walking or standing for long periods of time, ascending and descending stairs and ladders.
• Production demands may require overtime and/or evening or weekend scheduling.
• Schedules vary from 10-12 hours shift work required.
