Summary: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Director of The Lawrenceville Fund is responsible for the overall planning, execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program, known as The Lawrenceville Fund (TLF) inclusive of The Lawrenceville Parents Fund (TLPF). The Director will lead a team of four annual giving officers and one administrative assistant focused on a $8+ million annual fund each year as well as significantly increasing donor acquisition especially among young alumni.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Program Planning and Strategy:

  • Plan and implement multi-channel fundraising strategy for a $8+ million annual fund: peer-to-peer solicitations, direct mail, web/email, and phone; while making programmatic decisions on solicitation methods, segmentation, and timing.
  • Manage The Lawrenceville Fund and The Lawrenceville Parents Fund budgets; ensuring the program’s expenses are in line with allocated funds.
  • The Director will be responsible for a portfolio of prospects with capacity to make leadership level gifts to The Lawrenceville Fund, and will work closely with A&D colleagues to coordinate strategy and solicitation. 
  • Manage and monitor the annual giving leadership society, known as the Red & Black Society, making necessary course corrections as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan personalized messaging and segmentation strategies using a combination of contemporary communication approaches, analytics, and technologies. 
  • Oversee office-wide efforts focused on donor acquisition, especially with young alumni.
  • Provide oversight to the parent and alumni volunteer (Class Agent) program, with an emphasis on optimizing reunion fundraising.
  • Employ annual giving best practices in the areas of gift processing, data management, donor relations, and stewardship. 
  • Set the standard for the highest levels of confidentiality and customer service among the annual fund team and the wider office.

Management and Supervision:

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of four annual giving officers and one administrative assistant, providing mentorship, training and professional development for the team.
  • Set goals for each fundraiser and track progress toward these goals on a regular basis, conducting annual (and regular) performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 5-7+ years experience working in an independent school/higher education advancement office
  • Must be able to recruit, train, motivate, and retain a corps of committed volunteers for Lawrenceville.
  • Must be able to work earnestly and cooperatively as a team with coworkers and volunteers, and give and receive feedback 
  • Must be able to work in a friendly and collegial manner, with a thorough appreciation for the goals and mission of Lawrenceville, the interests of independent secondary education, and an understanding of liberal education as well as the operations that attend to schools of that nature. 
  • Must have a high level of ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with all types of volunteers.
  • Must be able to analyze and determine regional strategies for engagement and fund development, and must be able to present frequent goal analysis and results and be prepared to suggest new strategies when appropriate.
  • Should have some experience with class segmentation and be able to identify specific alumni constituencies within classes.
  • Must possess clear, concise, and effective writing and speaking skills.

  • Must be capable of using visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard

  • Required to work evenings, weekends and holidays in conjunction with School calendar and events
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. without assistance
