The Opportunity
The Manager, Public Affairs contributes to developing and maintaining constructive relationships in Canberra. This role ensures that interaction and engagements with Canberra stakeholders are coordinated and planned, developing and presenting briefing materials to executives and colleagues responsible for leading engagement, including through proactive briefing opportunities and established accountability mechanisms and processes such as Parliamentary hearings and questions, Freedom of Information requests and Periodic Investment reporting. The role will support work to secure stakeholder support to evolve the organisation's governance arrangements and to maintain investment independence and clarity.
Key Responsibilities
Government Relations
• Support the development and coordination of a program of regular engagement with Canberra stakeholders so that appropriate engagement is maintained at multiple levels across relevant departments, political offices and political leadership.
• Develop briefings and communication materials to ensure stakeholders are appropriately informed about investment strategy and performance and the development and implementation of the organisations’ business strategy and plan.
• Support the delivery of appropriate, timely and accurate responses to requests from Canberra stakeholders for information and insights.
• Support work to secure stakeholder buy in for the evolution of the organisation’s governance arrangements, meet its disclosure obligations and maintain investment independence and clarity
• Collaborate across the external relations team and wider organisation to coordinate and align engagement with Canberra stakeholders.
Accountability & Reporting
• Support the preparation of briefings and coaching for executives appearing at Parliamentary hearings and coordinate responses to follow questions on notice and other Parliamentary questions.
• Support the management of responses to Freedom of Information requests and reporting arrangements under the Board’s Periodic Investment Reporting obligations.
Issues Management
• Work with the wider Corporate Affairs team, and particularly External Relations team and the Director, Media relations, to maintain materials and messaging to allow prompt and effective responses to media and political enquiries and criticism.
• Coordinate or support responses to ad hoc issues as they arise which impact the reputation of the organisation, collaborating across the Agency and supporting the Chair/CEO/SLT as needed.
Collaboration across the Corporate Affairs Function
• Share specialist insights and expertise to upskill other members of the team across Corporate Affairs disciplines.
• Contribute to and support work in other parts of the Corporate Affairs function as required.
About You
Qualifications
• A degree in Commerce, Economics, Law, Public Policy or a or a related field.
Knowledge and Experience
• Extensive experience in influencing or developing public policy.
• Demonstrated ability to build and nurture key relationships with government stakeholders including politicians, political advisers and public officials.
• Experience in areas relevant to institutional investment including governance, investment and investment and non-investment risk management.
• Expertise in mitigating reputational risks through proactive issue management.
