Position Purpose

 

As a Team Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operations of our Berrinba Distribution Centre. You’ll be responsible for managing warehouse operations to deliver predictable, reliable service in line with Sigma’s service excellence standards. This role requires a strong focus on safety, operational efficiency, and team leadership, with the objective of improving customer service and reducing costs.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Warehouse & Operations Management

  • Lead and manage daily warehouse operations, including receiving, picking, packing, dispatching, and inventory control.

  • Ensure compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company policies.

  • Implement and monitor productivity, quality, and service standards to meet performance targets.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer service and reduce operational costs.

  • Maintain a safe and efficient working environment in accordance with Work Health & Safety (WHS) regulations.

  • Manage waste disposal and liaise with external contractors (e.g., waste removal, plumbing).

  • Coordinate and execute emergency and crisis procedures when necessary.

  • Ensure pre-start checks and equipment authorisations are completed for MHE and other machinery.

  • Process credits, claims, and time/attendance entries.

  • Manage and escalate operational issues when acting as Duty Manager.

 

People Management

  • Lead, coach and motivate a high-performing team to achieve warehouse KPIs.

  • Conduct performance management meetings, including absence, conduct, and behaviour discussions.

  • Develop individual training and development plans in line with operational goals.

  • Manage recruitment in collaboration with HR and oversee onboarding/inductions.

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and Sigma values.

  • Ensure team compliance with mandatory training, SOPs, and safety procedures.

  • Administer leave requests and manage workforce planning in line with workload demands.

 

Key Selection Criteria

 

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Certificate IV in Transport & Distribution (Warehousing & Storage)

  • Supervision or Team Leadership Certificate

  • H&S Certificate (5-day course)

  • Management training or demonstrated competency in leadership roles

 

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in FMCG or multi-SKU warehouse environments in a leadership role

  • Strong working knowledge of primary transport logistics

  • Experience using warehouse technology systems (RF scanning, automation)

  • Proven people management and team leadership experience

  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives

  • Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and return-to-work processes

  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Familiarity with Code of Good Wholesaling Practice
