About the Department
The daycare consists of three programs: Tiny Tots (3-4 1/2 years of age), After School Program (5-12 years of age), and seasonal day camps. Hours of the program are: 8am-6pm, Monday through Friday. On an occasional basis, you may be required to work some weekends or evening hours due to special events.
The current vacancy is in the After School Program, however placements are based on the needs of the department.



THE POSITION
Examples of duties while working as a Child Care Teacher include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise the children in the daycare program
- Maintain, clean, and disinfect classrooms
- Maintain cleanliness of restrooms as needed
- Help daycare participants with homework
- Preparing and serving snacks
- Transportation for After School Program participants
- Participate in seasonal programing and/or field trips
- Supervise outings as needed
- Creating a curriculum (i.e. Circle Time, songs)
- Independently taking lead of the classroom
- Assisting Tiny Tots participants with using the restroom (participants are already potty-trained)

Requires occasional physical effort including walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing, carrying and/or lifting children, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION
Graduation from high school or equivalent and fifteen (15) college units in Child Development, of which (6) units must be in Early Child Education is required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment and is a condition of continuing employment. A certificate by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association in Child/Infant C.P.R, and certification by the American Red Cross in First Aid is required.
The following certifications/immunizations are highly desirable:
- Mandated Reporter
- DPR Healthy Schools Act
- TDAP (within 10 years)
- Measles Vaccination (MMR)
Knowledge of – Child development and related activities; behavior management methods for children; foods and nutrition for children; recordkeeping techniques; state and local regulations for licensed child care facilities; purchasing and supply techniques related to area assigned; English usage and grammar; basic principles of supervision and training.
Skills/Abilities – Organize a childcare program to include planning and implementing activities for children; check activities and inspect facilities and equipment for safety; perform a wide variety of teaching and caregiving for children; analyze problems/situations and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable policies and procedures; understand and carry out oral written instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; meet the public and their children with courtesy and tact; operate a personal computer and use applicable software; maintain appropriate records.
