General Description:
Overall responsibility for the oversight, management and support of all human resource functions including payroll, health insurance, workers compensation, staffing, training and development, employee relations and counseling, compensation and benefits administration, and the implementation of human resource policies and practices.
Responsibilities:
- Enhances the organization’s human resources by overseeing, planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resource policies, programs, and practices. Assists in the development of an employee-oriented company culture that encourages quality, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Provides leadership and assistance and makes recommendations to ownership and management in developing human resource policies for the company. Communicates company policies and promotes understanding to employees.
- Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements, monitoring for updates, and maintaining accurate records. Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
- Monitors any pandemic employment and work requirements, ensuring company is in compliance with established regulatory and health requirements. Advises management and provides recommendations regarding the same.
- Maintains the relationship and is the primary point of contact for company’s independent HR consultant(s).
- Advises managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunities and sexual harassment and recommends changes to policies as needed.
- Manages the company’s Employee Manual, ensuring that it is current, complete and updated, and conforms to legal requirements and is consistent with current company policies.
- Maintains historical human resource records including all personnel-related data, such as dates of hire, employee applications, proof of citizenship, withholding information, performance appraisals, insurance, points of contact, and disciplinary action.
- Accurately records all employees’ pay data and reports. Maintains a record of employee salary and wages, including documentation of annual pay raises. Tracks the vacation, holiday, and miscellaneous absences of all employees.
- Interfaces with and monitor’s the company’s payroll service, ensuring information provided is accurate. Ensures W2’s are issued to all employees at year end.
- Develops and implements the company’s standards regarding hiring and termination of personnel. Coordinates exit interviews, termination of employment and relevant paperwork.
- Reviews workers’ compensation audit reports. Investigates claims as required. Reviews claims and tracks claims history, closure, annual renewals and bidding process, and annual insurance audits. Is the primary point of contact for all workers compensation communication and inquiries.
- Enters payroll into Travpay on a bi-weekly basis for workers compensation.
- Acts as the point of contact for enrollment and changes to the company’s 401k Plan
- Provides current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities for promotion and employee benefits.
- Manages and updates all employee benefits, including health insurance, dental insurance, 401K plan, leaves of absence and disability.
- Monitors timecards weekly. Monitors for overtime and related costs and discusses concerns with management.
- Handles day-to-day questions and assists in the resolution of work-related issues and employee grievances as they arise.
- Identifies training and development opportunities, organizes staff training sessions, workshops, and other activities as needed.
- Provides the onboarding, training, and orientation of new employees. Answers employees’ questions and provides support when integrating new hires into the company.
- Provides advice and assistance when conducting staff performance evaluations.
- Serves as employee liaison to assist in problem resolution with issues related to benefit deductions and pay.
- Cultivates professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Work Conditions/Requirements
- Indoor office environment in corporate office in San Diego.
- Majority of work to be accomplished in the office, primarily working on laptop computer and phone.
- Frequent work at fast pace with frequent, unscheduled interruptions.
- Frequent meetings and telephone calls with staff.
Position Type
- Full-time position, Monday through Friday. Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule and/or evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
