Description

Position Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner serves as a primary care provider for a defined patient population of all ages, offering both routine and episodic care, including walk-in services for our Dermatology Clinic in Augusta Georgia. The PA or NP functions in multiple capacities—provider, educator, consultant, manager, and administrator—under the supervision of the Medical Director. All clinical care is provided in accordance with established state and federal regulations, licensure requirements, and organizational protocols of the Neighborhood Improvement Project, Inc., d/b/a Medical Associates Plus.


II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Code of Conduct Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate as a team member to ensure high-quality patient care, both directly and indirectly.
  2. Complies with all organizational policies and procedures, and regulatory standards including but not limited to JCAHO, OSHA, and Medicare.
  3. Participate in planning and effective resource management.
  4. Supports ongoing Performance Improvement and Patient Safety initiatives.
  5. Provides patient education during each visit regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, follow-up care, and preventive health maintenance.
  6. Including family members and caregivers in discussions of the patient’s treatment plan, as appropriate.
  7. Demonstrates cultural competence and communicates in a manner that is appropriate to the patient’s level of understanding.
  8. Makes referrals and seeks consultation when a patient’s condition is outside the PA’s scope of practice or clinical competency.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

  1. Provides competent, age-appropriate primary care through patient assessment, clinical judgment, and interpretation of diagnostic data.
  2. Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork by assisting colleagues and adapting to workflow changes.
  3. Maintains open communication with colleagues and supervisors regarding operational issues.
  4. Ensure patient information confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA; never discuss patient information in public areas.
  5. Models’ exemplary customer service behavior for all team members.
  6. Encourages and recognizes excellent service among staff members.
  7. Use organizational resources efficiently and responsibly.
  8. Actively contributes to patient safety and quality improvement efforts.
  9. Maintains current knowledge and licensure within the profession.
  10. Understands and comply with all ethical and legal requirements and reports suspected violations appropriately.
  11. Collaborate with other departments to support clinical and operational improvements.
  12. Maintains effective working relationships with referring providers and external partners.
  13. Strengthens and supports the patient-provider relationship to promote continuity of care.
  14. Apply advanced clinical knowledge and legislative awareness to advocate for high-quality care.
  15. Maintains accurate electronic medical records and oversees reporting responsibilities assigned to support staff.
  16. Implement strategies to reduce unnecessary emergency department utilization and hospital admissions.
  17. Serves as the clinical lead on site during their shift and in the absence of the Chief Medical Officer.
  18. Collaborates with supervising physicians to annually review and update clinical protocols and policies.
  19. Participates in periodic chart reviews for quality assurance and improvement purposes.
  20. Maintains laboratory procedure manuals and ensures compliance with CLIA standards, including quality control and documentation.
  21. Participates in the clinic's on-call rotation and may provide care to partner organization patients when on-call.
  22. Provides emergency care to non-patients at Medical Associates Plus sites, as needed and permitted by scope of practice.

Qualifications


Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the state of Georgia.
  • National certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner required.

IV. Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, and use hands for extended periods.
  • Frequently required to stand, handle tools or controls, and reach with arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must possess vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

V. Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an outpatient primary care setting with adequate lighting and climate control.
  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, sharps, and moderate noise levels.
  • Infrequent exposure to low-level radiation.
  • May occasionally work extended hours.
  • Position may involve high patient volume and emotionally charged situations.
