River Tech Academy at Goodwin University is Connecitcut's First Technical Magnet High School operated by Goodwin University on its river campus in East Hartford, CT. We are actively searching for a Career and Technology Education (CTE) Teacher to join our dynamic team of educators for the 2025-2026 school year. An ideal candidate is someone with an ability to motivate students from diverse backgrounds and interests. The school features a collaborative learning model, block scheduling, hands-on and outdoor learning along with multiple connections to Goodwin University. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, a strong desire to work with students from urban and suburban settings and possess an understanding of and appreciation for multicultural education. The selected teacher will experience a new facility set on the Connecticut River and will become a member of a dynamic team of educators. The Career and Technology Education Teacher shall:
- Provide formal instruction and leadership in welding as assigned utilizing appropriate curriculum, equipment, and materials.
- Work with CTE Director and Coordinator to determine appropriate curriculum, equipment, and materials utilizing either third party resources [e.g. consortium-based curriculum providers, commercial vendors, etc.] or by developing original coursework if necessary and as required.
- Specify, select, install, operate, and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget restraints.
- Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
- Support industry-based advisory panels in support of college-level welding programs.
- Participate in marketing and recruiting activities and provide supporting materials as required for the development of advertising promotions such as brochures, media spots, web pages, posters, etc.
- Initiate and maintain contact with area businesses and/or manufacturers for the purpose of promoting division programs through donations, employee referral, job shadowing/internship programs, advisory panel participation, and hiring of program graduates.
- Assist in student job placement and follow-up.
- Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by the Director or designee.
Qualifications/Requirements
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
- Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred, and certification in appropriate area of instruction.
- Work experience in meeting the needs of racially, ethnically, socioeconomically and linguistically diverse groups of youth is desirable.
- Preference will be given to candidates with industry experience in welding technology.
- CSDE Certification in Technology Education: 047, Trade and Industrial Occupations: 098 or Cooperative Work Education/Diversified Occupations: 104
- Industry-level experience and/or certification preferred (i.e. AWS Certification, etc.)
- Opportunities exist to supplement current welding knowledge and techniques through Goodwin University
