This position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local 500 - Provost & Enrollment Division. That means the terms and conditions of your employment are governed by university policy (including the Staff Personnel Policies Manual) and any collective bargaining agreement entered into between American University and SEIU Local 500 - Provost & Enrollment Division.

Job Description:

Summary:

The Part-Time Costume Shop Technician reports directly to the Costume Shop Designer. Under the direction of the Costume Shop Designer, the technician will support the daily operations of the costume shop and create costumes for performances in the Greenberg Theatre and Katzen Arts Center.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in all aspects of the costume shop daily operations and costume builds. With the Costume Shop Designer, they will supervise the wardrobe assistants and participate in fittings, consultations, and shop work.

  • Attend production meetings and tech rehearsals for assigned Department of Performing Arts productions. Participate in costume pick-ups and returns as needed.

  • Assist in maintaining costume facilities, and ensuring proper procedures are followed. Assist in managing extensive storage of costume stock.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-Time.

  • 20 hours per week (27 hours maximum).

Salary Range:

  • $23.00 - $25.00 per hour.


Required Education and Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma required.

  • 2 years' relevant work experience in costume or tailor shop.
