Malvern Panalytical, SciAps and Micromeritics. A powerful combination. Join us.

SciAps, Inc. is a Boston area-based scientific instrument company specializing in high-performance portable analytical instruments. Our mission is to provide best-in-class hand-held instruments to identify compounds, minerals, and elements. The current product portfolio consists of LIBS, XRF, Raman, and NIR technologies.

About the Role

We are looking for an Applications Scientist to join our R&D/Applications team, with a focus on our line of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary high technology environment.

What you will bring to the role

Ideal candidates will have a background working with analytical instrumentation, familiarity working in a laboratory setting, an understanding of spectroscopic processing algorithms, and an interest in working in a wide variety of industry and academic applications.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Become an expert in SciAps’ analytical algorithms, calibration techniques, and spectral interpretation for EDXRF products. Provide feedback to R&D and Product Management to further develop and optimize these approaches to produce higher-performing instrumentation that exceeds our customers’ needs
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer applications, including testing of metal alloys, soils, polymers, geochemical samples, and many others
  • Characterize and refine new applications and custom calibrations. Write application reports and share/present to our customers and internally within SciAps
  • Review, interpret, and prepare reports of XRF data for large analytical projects
  • Support the sales team with demonstrations and training for technically challenging applications
  • Support the customer service team when troubleshooting advanced analytical issues
  • Create documentation for calibration processes and analytical Quality Assurance procedures. Ensure the accuracy of documentation as well.
  • Provide prompt calibration and analytical support for complex issues to the manufacturing department as required
  • Ability to work with other SciAps analytical products, including LIBS and NIR as required

Skills and Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience, ideally within instrumentation, technology, or research industries
  • Self-starter with superior analytical and experimental skills. Must be interested in substantial hands-on work with instrumentation
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to deal with a dynamic environment where priorities can change frequently depending on the needs of the business
  • Ability to think creatively, work independently, take on a variety of technical hurdles, to understand and improve instrument operation
  • Familiarity with EDXRF, especially Fundamental Parameters, is highly desirable
  • Experience programming and debugging code (especially Java and C++) is highly desirable

Education:

  • PhD or MS in hard science, such as Physics or Chemistry, or equivalent experience and training. BS with relevant experience will be considered.
