About the Department
Under general supervision, maintains proficiency in areas of a Fleet Equipment Installer as well as duties listed in essential functions of this document.
Position Duties

- Carry out the Sheriff’s Mission and Vision and adhere to the Office’s core values; Trust, Service, Community;
- Cultivates high morale and a Team culture;
- Performs all services at a high-level and is customer service oriented;
- Perform installation, removal, reinstallation of public safety equipment in law enforcement and detention vehicles;
- Perform programming, repairs and updates on fleet equipment;
- Maintain sufficient inventory of parts, supplies, and tools;
- Maintain safe and clean work space;
- Manage work orders in projects in an efficient manner;
- Assist other team members in Fleet Team when needed;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: -- to perform this position successfully, an individual(s) must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. |
Knowledge of:
- 12-Volt electrical systems
- Intermediate knowledge of vehicle mechanics
- Modern office procedures and equipment;
- Department policies, procedures, and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
Skill and Abilities:
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Maintaining strict confidentiality;
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with BCSO partners, stakeholders, and community;
- Using initiative, discretion and decision making within established procedures, guidelines and rules;
- Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusion;
- Operate common fire suppression equipment;
- Operate power tools, mechanic tools, and pneumatic tools in a safe manner;
- Performing various mathematical calculations;
- Providing effective customer service;
- Multitasking;
- Operating a computer and various software applications;
- Carry out duties with integrity and honesty;
- Operating tractors, trailers and other general equipment including but not limited to power tools, welding machine, and other tools/equipment;
- Welding, power tools, and any equipment required to achieve the assigned task;
- Performs other duties assigned.
EDUCATION, REQUIREMENTS, AND TRAINING: -- the preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The County reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another. |
- High School graduate, GED or Equivalent;
- Or possess an honorable discharge if prior military service.
- 2 Years in Automotive experience
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License;
- ASE Certifications preferred
