Job Summary
The Nuclear Enterprise Risk Technical Leader leverages deep expertise in nuclear engineering, cybersecurity, risk management, and executive leadership to design, lead, and execute complex, multidisciplinary research and operational projects. Recognized as an authority in technical and scientific domains, this leader drives innovation, strategic planning, and operational excellence across public and private sectors. The role is responsible for advancing organizational outcomes, mentoring technical staff as required, and shaping industry best practices through thought leadership and impactful publications.
Responsibilities
- Support national security strategic planning efforts and shape future opportunities through technical excellence and thought leadership in the field. Efforts will chiefly support strategic thrust areas and related efforts and opportunities across the nuclear enterprise (front end through back end and the supply chain), but may involve other enterprise risk environments where opportunities may be discovered.
- Lead and manage high-complexity projects in nuclear engineering, cyber risk management, vulnerability research, and IT security, ensuring delivery within time and budget constraints.
- Architect, develop, and implement secure solutions chiefly for nuclear enterprise environments, including supply chain, aligning with industry standards and organizational security requirements.
- Conduct advanced risk assessments across the nuclear enterprise (and other sectors as opportunities as possible), threat modeling, and vulnerability research, developing and publishing new methodologies and frameworks (e.g., counterfeits, ransomware assessment, business impact analysis).
- Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to clients, senior management, and stakeholders; represent the organization at industry conferences and in public forums.
- Once projects are established, develop and maintain project budgets, oversee proposal efforts, and drive business development and strategic planning initiatives, maintaining multi-million dollar annual revenues based on pipeline targets established by management.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients, proactively identifying and addressing client needs in highly regulated industries.
- Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance and oversight to engineers, scientists, and executives as required; lead executive training programs and graduate-level courses if possible.
- Advise senior management and business leaders on strategic technical decisions, technology commercialization, and risk governance.
- Ensure continuous improvement of security policies, procedures, and incident response plans; stay current with emerging threats and technologies.
- Publish research, participate in scientific conferences, and enhance the organization’s reputation through thought leadership and service on advisory boards when possible given appropriate financial resources.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree engineering or software development and 20 years of experience, Master’s degree in engineering and 15 years of experience.
- Certified Project Management Professional (PMP),
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively with executives, clients, and cross-functional teams; excellent written and presentation skills, with extensive publication and conference record.
- Recognized expertise and national/international reputation in risk management, cyber resilience, and technical leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 20 years of progressive leadership experience in engineering, risk management, cybersecurity, and executive education across academia, government, and industry.
- Combination of military, government and nuclear industry experience highly preferred.
