Area of responsibility

 

The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of food production, ensuring the implementation and compliance of quality standards, food safety regulations, and customer standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and an in-depth understanding of food manufacturing processes. The manager will be responsible for managing cross-functional teams to improve the site’s Food Safety Management System, maintain the highest food safety standards, and ensure product safety, quality and legality from concept to finished goods.

 

Responsibilities;

 

  • Accountable for the Technical, Quality Assurance and Hygiene functions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety legislation, industry standards and customer requirements (e.g. BRCGS, HACCP, retailer standards).
  • Lead, mentor and develop the Compliance Manager, Hygiene Manager and QA Managers, ensuring their teams operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain and continuously improve HACCP systems, food safety plans, and quality management systems across the business, and lead the HACCP team.
  • Manage internal and external audits, liaising with regulatory bodies, certification audits, and customers to maintain the highest accreditation standards.
  • Oversee non-conformances, customer complaints, and audit findings, ensuring effective corrective and preventive action is implemented.
  • Work closely with production and operations to embed a strong food safety and quality culture throughout Danish Crown UK.
  • Report key technical and quality performance metrics to senior management, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop expertise across the site, fully understanding the processes and constraints, to continuously improve food safety, legality and quality compliance across the site.
  • Manage Hygiene Operations.
  • Manage the site’s Validations and Risk Assessments.
  • Manage the Food Safety Culture Plan.
  • Oversee the site’s Traceability and Due Diligence requirements.
  • Oversee Pest Control Systems.
  • Oversee the site’s sampling programme (Environmental swabbing, Product Testing, Water Testing)
  • Coach, mentor, and foster a Food Safety Culture across the business.
  • Be able to respond positively to changing business circumstances and readily adapt to maintain effective performance.
  • Assist the Technical Director as required. 

 

Requirements;

 

  •  Previous experience in retail, customer service, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and peak sale periods.
  • Ability to analyse problems and find solutions.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Works collaboratively with others.
