Qualifications:                        

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, workforce development, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  2. GCDF certification
  3. Two years of Experience in career counseling, workforce development, or K–12/CTE program coordination.
  4. Strong organizational, data analysis, and program management skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with business, industry, and community stakeholders.
  6. Education experience preferred

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of local, regional, and state workforce demands, opportunities for internships in the counties served, CTE career pathways, and K12 education.
  2. Current GCDF certification or equivalent is required or willingness to earn in first six months.
  3. Current GCDF instructor certification or equivalent is desired.
  4. Previous experience facilitating both large and small group sessions is preferred.

 

Position Summary

The Regional Career Specialist (RCS) serves as a vital link between schools, higher education institutions, business/industry stakeholders, and community partners to ensure students are prepared for successful postsecondary pathways. This position creates alignment between K–12 education, higher education, and the business community, addressing regional workforce needs through partnerships with organizations such as OneSpartanburg, Inc. and the Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM). The RCS plays a key role in advancing the region’s Talent Gap Analysis priorities, supporting the Talent Forum, and serving as a liaison between K–12 and higher education to strengthen the talent pipeline. The RCS provides technical assistance, professional development, and program coordination to enhance career awareness, exploration, guidance, and work-based learning (WBL). This role is accountable to both local district needs and state-level compliance requirements as outlined by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE), Perkins V, and the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA).

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Partnerships & Career Guidance

  • Support school counselors, career specialists, and career guidance personnel in delivering career awareness, exploration, and decision-making activities.
  • Serve as liaison between K–12 schools, higher education institutions, and the business community, ensuring alignment of programming with regional workforce demands and Talent Forum goals.
  • Track, analyze, and report the number, quality, and relevance of partnerships on a monthly basis to district leadership.
  • Partner with business and industry stakeholders, OneSpartanburg, Inc., Spartanburg Academic Movement and community organizations to expand career guidance resources and work-based learning (WBL) opportunities.

Student Programs & Recognition

  • Provide programming and workshops to support career development, the Individual Graduation Plan (IGP), and student decision-making.
  • Coordinate and maintain a structured internship program aligned with district goals (e.g., AVID) and regional workforce priorities identified through the Talent Gap Analysis.
  • Collect and evaluate data on student internship participation, satisfaction, and outcomes (employment, continuing education, etc.), sharing insights with the Talent Forum.
  • Organize recognition opportunities for exemplary student achievement, including CTE competitions, career and academic programs, and annual CTE career guidance nomination awards for the SC Education and Business Summit.

Professional Development & Training

  • Facilitate regional and district-wide professional development for administrators, educators, work-based learning coordinators, career specialists, and career guidance personnel.
  • Deliver training on Perkins V requirements, CTE career guidance, contextual methodology, WBL, and GCDF certification.
  • Provide and maintain Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) instructor certification while adhering to the GCDF Code of Ethics.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and regional collaborations, including OneSpartanburg, Inc.’s Talent initiatives and the Talent Forum, to remain current on workforce trends.

Compliance & Accountability

  • Ensure state-level compliance with SCDE accountability measures related to career readiness and WBL.
  • Provide technical assistance, training, and continuous monitoring of WBL to meet Perkins V goals.
  • Support accurate reporting of WBL activities in PowerSchool, ensuring data quality and accountability.
  • Deliver direct career and technical education services as directed by the Office of Career Readiness, SCDE.

Performance Expectations

  • Maintain accurate, timely reports and data to meet SCDE and district accountability requirements.
  • Build sustainable, high-quality partnerships with OneSpartanburg, Inc., Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM), higher education institutions, and business/industry stakeholders that reflect workforce needs.
  • Coordinate career development programming that is student-centered, equitable, and aligned with state, regional, and Talent Gap Analysis
  • Actively support the Talent Forum by providing data, insights, and program updates that inform regional workforce and education alignment strategies.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement through feedback, professional development, and program evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison among K–12, higher education, families, and local businesses to build awareness, highlight success stories, and strengthen the regional talent pipeline.

  • Collect, analyze, and report data on partnerships, internships, and student outcomes (participation, satisfaction, job offers, continued education) to superintendents, administrators, and the Talent Forum.
