Career Summary:
The American Nurses Enterprise (ANE) is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Test Development and Psychometrics.
As Assistant Director, Test Development and Psychometrics at the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), you are an experienced and visionary leader in the field of test development and psychometrics who oversees high-stakes certification assessments with substantial revenue influence.
As Assistant Director you will lead our assessment strategy and execution, including, but not limited to, overseeing project timelines and associated budget ($6 Million) and $45 Million in program revenue; development, validation, and maintenance of high-quality assessments; test security monitoring and risk mitigation; and adherence to accreditation standards.
In addition, you will manage vendor relationships, mentor and train managers, collaborate cross-functionally, and serve as a thought leader in the field—presenting to boards, engaging with stakeholders, and representing the organization at national and international conferences.
This role requires deep expertise in psychometrics, a strong track record of leadership, and the ability to represent the organization externally with authority and credibility.

What You Will Do:
- Lead the strategic direction and execution of test development and psychometric functions. (30 products)
- Supervise and mentor a team of assessment professionals, including training and development of managers.
- Ensure the validity, reliability, fairness, and legal defensibility of all assessments.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align assessments and strategy with organizational goals.
- Present psychometric findings and strategic updates to executive leadership and board members.
- Represent the organization at professional conferences, panels, and industry events.
- Stay current with trends, research, and best practices in credentialing, psychometrics, and assessment.
- Oversee the implementation of innovative assessment methodologies and technologies.
- Other duties to support the department’s objectives.
What you bring to the American Nurses Enterprise:
Education
- Ph.D. in Psychometrics, Educational Measurement, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or related field.
Related Work Experience
- Minimum of 10 years in test development and psychometrics.
- Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role, with proven experience in multi-level team management and training/mentoring managers.
- Publication or presentation record in professional forums or conferences.
- Preference for experience in licensure or certification.
Skills
- Oral and written communication skills, with experience presenting to boards and external stakeholders as well as facilitating meetings with subject matter experts.
- Expertise in classical test theory, item response theory, and modern psychometric methods.
- Familiarity with assessment platforms, data analysis tools, and psychometric software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, Winsteps, etc.).
- Expertise in job analysis, research design and completion.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving.
- Technical report writing.
- Volunteer recruitment, engagement, and management.

- Ability to accurately attend to details.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
