JOB TITLE: Director of Transportation
SALARY LEVEL: Salary based upon experience and qualifications
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Full year, full time
REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent
CLASSIFICATION: Professional Support
PRIMARY JOB GOAL: Leadership and supervision of the Transportation Department. Providing safe transportation of all eligible district students to and from school; transportation of students for extra-curricular and co-curricular events and activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversee the design of maximally efficient routes and schedules, including athletic trips and field trips.
- Ensure that the school district conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
- Oversee the maintenance of all buses with the highest priority placed on safety.
- Obtain and maintain all records required, all certificates of training and inspection that verify the conformance of the operation to the law.
- Ability to lead people toward a common mission and vision required. Ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Assist the Superintendent in making decisions about the safety of the roads in the event of inclement weather.
- Provide instruction, training and professional development to drivers and bus aides.
- Ensure the enforcement of all rules and policies for all riders.
- Manage the fuel system, including fuel rings, fobs, dispensers and associated equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following:
- Must hold at least a “B” CDL with P, S and Air brake endorsements.
- Type B fuel tank inspector certification required (or willing to obtain)
- Certification to manage and inspect the fuel tanks per state requirements.
- High School Diploma required; college education preferred.
- Knowledge of routing software preferred.
