Base Compensation Range: $20/hr - $23/hr plus 10% for swing shift differential

This position is eligible for an annual 10% bonus opportunity in addition to the base salary

Job Summary

2nd Shift Machinist with Set-up abilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Responsible for working within the Machine Shop at GPT. This includes:

  • Assist in the daily operations of a machine shop.
  • Uphold all Machine Shop safety practices
  • Knowledge in setting up tools properly and safely in the holder and in the machine
  • Understanding proper cutting tool selection for each operation and type of material
  • Learn basic manual milling and lathe practices and safety
  • Learn basic use of MasterCam
  • Loading parts into CNC machines properly and safely
  • Operate CNC machine properly and safely
  • Knowledge of machine controls
  • Knowledge of G code for editing and adjusting programs at machine
  • Deburring and cleaning parts.
  • Lap parts.
  • Sandblast parts.
  • Assist in the cleanliness of the shop.
  • Knowledge / ability to reading print and follow shop practices.
  • Knowing the proper usage of all tools
  • Installing helicoils and other inserts.
  • Maintain machines coolant.
  • Clean and maintain machine.
  • Material handling- able to lift 50lbs.
  • Saw material.
  • Knowledge of different types of materials.
  • Being aware of hazards from different materials, chemicals and contaminated parts.
  • Proper use, knowledge and maintaining shop measuring tools.
  • In-process inspection of parts off the machine.
  • Assist in Quality Control (QC).
  • Assist in organization / management of shop supplies, tools and cutting tools
  • Planning of daily work
  • Sign off test and training records.

Experience/Education

  • High school education
  • 5+ years working experience in a machine shop

Knowledge and Skillsets Required

  • Must be able to perform set-ups on Haas CNC Mills and Haas CNC Lathe
  • Understand and identify various tooling that is called out for each job
  • Print/Drawing tolerances, dimensions
  • Use of Calipers, OD Micrometers, Height Gages, Optical Comparator
  • General preventative maintenance on shop equipment

Physical Demands

  • Long periods of standing
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. or more

Environmental Conditions

  • Climate control (air conditioning or heating) to ensure comfort.
  • Lighting: Artificial lighting
  • Noise Levels: Light to moderate
  • Ventilation: Good ventilation to ensure a comfortable working environment, though this can vary depending on the building.
  • Safety: Must use protective gear (gloves, lab coats, goggles) and adherence to safety standards.
