Job Duties

Provides direct addiction treatment services utilizing group, individual education about the disease, relapse and recovery processes of addiction.

Acts as advocate for the patient with other Medical Center programs and functions as liaison with other providers for the purpose of community linkage to network patients.

Acts as part of the management team that makes decisions about policies and procedures.

Records data used for Performance Improvement.

Designs a discharge plan for continuity of treatment needs to outpatient, community, social services and other health care agencies for continued recovery.

Conducts chart audits.

Facilitates group and family sessions.

Makes recommendations regarding the needs of the patient from an addiction and recovery perspective.

Provides guidance to staff and communicates concerns to the Program Director.

Notifies Security Department when/if the need arises to ensure the safety of the patient, community, staff and/or property. Inform Emergency Room physician that an immediate evaluation may need to be performed.

Reads collateral information for prior history and treatment of patients.

Makes recommendations based on screening, assessment, interview, history of present illness, family history, current legal problems, most conducive treatment and discharge plan for optimum recovery outcomes.

Monitors documentation of Level I & II staff.

Conducts on-going evaluation of the actual practice of services being delivered and seeks to identify improvement needs by patient response and approach of the type of treatment services being rendered.

Accepts New Bridge Medical Center policy regarding random staff drug testing/screening.

Maintains licensure requirements.

Makes recommendations to the Supervisor and/or Coordinator regarding improvement needs and suggests resolutions which may enhance the quality of treatment and delivery of services.

Maintains established contacts with DYFS, probation and parole offices, social services, welfare, housing, other health care providers, and treatment programs to support the patient’s treatment needs.

Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and creates necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.

Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.

Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.

Other Duties
Make decisions regarding policy in the absence of supervisor and Program Director.
Works weekends and holidays when needed.
Actively participates in all required department meetings.
Attends related in-services, workshops, and conferences, as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.


Position Qualifications
Good oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills
Bilingual skills a plus (Spanish, etc.)
Good interpersonal skills.
Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
Heartsaver/CPR Certification required.
BLS Certification preferred.

Education
A level 3 Counselor has met all the requirements of N.J.A.C 13:34C-2.2.required.
Licensed as a Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee.
A Level 3 Counselor must be able to demonstrate at least 3 to 5 years of experience working within the addiction’s treatment field.
At least 3 to 5 years’ experience working in the area of chemical dependency.

Job Setting/Physical Demands
Program locations; contact with patients, families, and staff.
Somewhat sedentary, but mobility required.
Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients.
Occasionally heavy physical effort when restraining out-of-control patients pending hospitalization.
Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
Handles emergency and crisis situations.

Salary commensurate with experience within posted range

$40.14/hour
