Summary:
The Value Stream Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of a manufacturing facility that includes welding, assembly, and paint processes. This position ensures that production runs safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively while meeting or exceeding customer expectations for quality and delivery. The Value Stream Manager provides strong leadership to value stream supervisors, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of plant operations including welding, assembly, and paint departments.
- Ensure a safe work environment through enforcement of company safety policies and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead and develop a high-performance team through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- Develop and implement production schedules, resource plans, and workflow strategies to meet delivery commitments.
- Monitor and drive key performance indicators (KPIs) such as: Direct Labor Efficiency (DLE), (Defective) Parts per Million (PPM), On-time Delivery (OTD), etc.
- Champion, lead, and drive Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Cost-Reduction initiatives, using tools such as 5S, Kaizen, and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate closely with production control, design and manufacturing engineering, supply chain, quality assurance, and customer service to align on product delivery priorities and needs.
- Support new product introductions and other cross-functional projects.
- Report regularly to executive leadership on production performance, resource needs, risks, and opportunities.
- Sets the highest ethical standards for self and others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations and/or Engineering; MBA a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership and management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior hands-on experience managing welding (MIG/TIG/robotic/manual), assembly, and industrial painting operations preferred.
- Proven track record of implementing Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Cost-Reduction initiatives, using tools such as 5S, Kaizen, and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001 standards and regulatory compliance requirements (OSHA, EPA).
- Proven track record of developing team members and leading cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement creative, data-oriented solutions to systems and processes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly manages a team of departmental (Value Stream) supervisors in the welding, assembly, and paint areas.
- Collaborates and partners with other functional areas: production control, materials, quality, manufacturing and design engineering, maintenance, logistics, finance, EHS and HR.
- Responsible for hiring, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee development.
- Oversees organizational planning including workforce scheduling, cross-training, and succession planning.

- Work Environment: Primarily a manufacturing floor environment with exposure to machinery, welding fumes, paint chemicals, and varying noise levels. Office work is also required for reporting and planning.
- Physical Demands: Frequent walking, standing, and observation on the production floor; occasional lifting of materials up to 20 lbs; use of PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators) as required.
- Travel: Minimal travel (0–10%) may be required for vendor visits, customer meetings, or training.
