Overview
The Sterilization Technician position is a fast-paced, detail-oriented role consisting of processing, sterilizing, and maintaining instruments throughout the day in our busy dental office. This position supports the practice's daily operations; it is vital to work as quickly and efficiently as possible while ensuring that all instruments receive critical care based on manufacturing guidelines.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Adhere to OSHA guidelines, HIPAA Privacy Policy, and clinical operating procedures.
- Collect, clean, prepare and organize dental tools and instruments for dental procedures.
- Disinfect and sterilize tools, equipment, chairs, counters, and surfaces, using sterilizers, aerators, or washers.
- Follow all safety procedures in handling instruments, equipment, and hazardous waste material.
- Prepare work areas for treatments and procedures.
- Stock dental supplies.
- Maintain inventory or tool usage records and relay information to the Lead Assistant to replenish supplies when inventory is low.
- Maintain upkeep of dental equipment by performing routine maintenance.
- Maintain proper records of equipment maintenance/servicing.
- Run and record autoclave spore tests to ensure thorough instrument sterilization.
- Seat and prepare patients for appointments and/or bring them to check-out as needed.
- Take dental radiographs on patients as needed (if able and licensed).
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
