EverQuote, Inc., a fast-growing technology company, is seeking a Director of Corporate Development and Strategy to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director will be responsible for leading our evaluation of potential acquisitions and partnerships, and driving key strategic initiatives to enhance growth, operational efficiency, and shareholder value. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-growth environment, has strong judgment, exceptional quantitative and analytical skills, and brings a low-ego, team-first mindset. The role is based in our Cambridge, MA headquarters and requires a minimum of 2-3 days per week in-office.
What you’ll do:
This newly-created and highly visible role will collaborate closely with the CEO, CFO, and senior leaders across the business to evaluate new markets, build business cases, identify and execute potential acquisitions/strategic partnerships, and manage key strategic initiatives that extend beyond the core day-to-day operations. The Director will lead EverQuote’s efforts across two principal areas:
Corporate Development:
- Identify, evaluate, prioritize and maintain a pipeline of potential acquisition targets and partnerships aligned with corporate strategy.
- Lead financial modeling, valuation analyses, and due diligence on potential targets.
- Drive negotiations and ensure optimal terms and alignment with long-term objectives.
- Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and operational stakeholders to execute transactions.
- Develop board-level and executive presentations to support deal recommendations.
- Maintain market intelligence and competitive insights to inform M&A and corporate strategy, leveraging third-party data sources and research.
Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives:
- Lead cross-functional corporate initiatives to analyze new market opportunities, expand market access, and drive operational efficiencies.
- Support the executive team on long-term strategic planning efforts through market research, business case development, and scenario modeling.
- Serve as the project management lead on high-priority corporate initiatives involving multiple departments.
- Strong communicator who can prepare and present high-quality and concisely written deliverables to update executive leadership and the Board on projects / initiatives
Who you are:
You are a results-oriented finance leader with strong business acumen and judgement, who excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires you to concurrently lead and execute multiple complex projects. You are equally as passionate about building and leading an acquisition program as you are in driving key strategic initiatives to evaluate a new market opportunity or drive company-wide operational efficiency. You want to be part of a high performing team that is committed to winning and driving substantial shareholder value.
- 8-12 years of professional experience required with a minimum of: (i) 3-5 years working in the technology M&A team of a top tier investment banking firm or private equity firm; and (ii) an additional 3-5 years of corporate development experience in a publicly-traded technology company.
- Strategic-thinker with significant experience leading, influencing and driving priorities at the executive level
- Proven track record of successfully identifying, executing, negotiating, closing and integrating multiple acquisitions.
- Able to analyze complex issues (e..g. a potential acquisition, new market, financial analyses/valuation, opportunities and risks) and succinctly summarizing your findings into a business or investment case for review by executive management or Board
- Possess excellent quantitative and analytical skills including proficiency in financial statement analysis, financial modeling and valuation experience to effectively evaluate growth opportunities
- Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and a bias for action; ability to act in a decisive, urgent and committed way to achieve results; remain focused on deliverables and leverage resources to reach goals.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting required; MBA a plus.
- Specific experience in working with companies that are Internet marketplaces, fintech/insurtech players or in the broad insurance industry is desirable but not required.
