The Lactation Consultant is a partner in care in the Lactation Service of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Functions as a member of the health care team working in the service of breastfeeding families. Provides consultation with advanced clinical expertise in the field of human lactation through assessment, education, and resourcing. Supports the initiation and continuation of the mothers desired breastfeeding experience. Functions within professional and hospital standards. Graduate of accredited school of nursing with a BSN. A current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Wisconsin. Two years experience required in maternal/child, pediatric or NICU setting. Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required. Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification or Certified Lactation Consultant/Certified Lactation Educator (CLC/CLE) with IBCLC certification within one year of hire. Must maintain certification. Possess willingness and initiative to successfully complete educational requirements. Follows guidelines of the International Lactation Consultant Association. Knowledge of the principles of neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent growth and development and child/family responses to crisis. Interpersonal skills necessary to gather and share information with physicians, patients, parents, visitors, and co-workers in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to walk and stand for up to 100% of the time. Ability to lift/carry, push/pull weights of approximately 20 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Ability to reach with good upper extremity range.
