Position Summary

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student Technical Specialist to support the use and administration of QPath, the department’s ultrasound workflow and reporting system. This student position (approximately 10–28 hours per week) offers hands-on experience with healthcare technology, data management, and clinical operations support. Primary responsibilities include managing QPath user accounts, assisting with the creation of departmental worksheets, tracking scholarly activity, and ensuring system accuracy and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, an interest in technology, and a willingness to work in a collaborative research and clinical environment.
Key duties include monitoring the QPath system, assisting faculty, residents, and staff with login issues, workflow navigation, and troubleshooting, as well as uploading, organizing, and verifying ultrasound studies and reports. Beyond QPath support, the Student Technical Specialist will also assist the Emergency Medicine IT division with various departmental technology needs as assigned by supervising faculty or IT staff such as documenting and tracking support requests, developing quick-reference materials or user guides, and collaborating with IT staff to resolve technical issues. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily QPath system monitoring, including user access and troubleshooting.
  • Support faculty, residents, and staff with login issues, workflow navigation, and basic technical questions.
  • Upload, organize, and verify ultrasound studies and reports within QPath.
  • Ensure data accuracy and compliance with departmental policies.
  • Document and track support requests to help identify recurring issues.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to escalate advanced technical issues.
  • Assist in creating user guides or quick-reference documentation for QPath users.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the IT team or supervising faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current UNM student (undergraduate or graduate) with interest in healthcare, IT, or related fields.
  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills and familiarity with databases or medical software.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear instructions to faculty/staff.
  • Attention to detail, reliability, and confidentiality in handling sensitive data.
