At Mahaska Health a Sleep Lab Apprentice will gain hands-on experience working alongside a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) in a clinical sleep lab setting. This entry-level, part-time position is designed for individuals pursuing a career in sleep medicine.
Apprentices will work 8 to 16 hours per week, shadowing and assisting an RPSGT during to learn the fundamentals of sleep study procedures, patient care, and data acquisition.

  • On-the-job training under the direct supervision of a registered sleep technologist. Independent work is not expected or allowed until certification is achieved.
  • Online sleep school tuition is fully covered to support your path toward becoming a certified RPSGT. Schooling is to be completed in 1 year of time and successfully passing the Certification requirement for state licensing with the intention of becoming a registered polysomnographic technologist in 3 years’ time.

Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to,
  • Assist the RPSGT During Sleep Studies
  • Observe and support the setup and monitoring of daytime and overnight polysomnographic recordings under direct supervision.
  • Prepare Sleep Study Equipment and Patient Rooms
  • Help set up electrodes, sensors, and monitoring equipment prior to patient arrival.
  • Support Patient Comfort and Safety
  • Assist with welcoming patients, explaining procedures, and ensuring a calm, professional environment.
Job Requirements include but are not limited to,
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Enrollment in in an Accredited Sleep Technologist Program
  • Must be committed to completing online coursework (tuition assistance provided) in one year of time.
  • Interest in a Healthcare Career, Specifically Sleep Medicine
  • Desire to learn and grow in the field of polysomnography.
  • Flexibility to train alongside RPSGTs during active patient studies.
