Position Summary
The Fleet Technician Specialist is responsible for the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of utility vehicles and equipment, with a strong emphasis on hydraulic systems including Terex aerial devices and digger derricks. This role ensures the operational readiness, safety, and regulatory compliance of the company’s specialized fleet assets. The position requires significant fieldwork, including onsite repairs, and close collaboration with drivers, vendors, and the Fleet Manager.
Primary Position Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on utility equipment such as aerial platforms, digger derricks, cranes, vacuum trucks, and trenching machines, especially Terex models (Hi-Ranger, Telelect).
- Troubleshoot and service hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems both in-shop and in the field.
- Conduct periodic and DOT-required inspections and preventive maintenance (PM) tasks in compliance with OSHA, PHMSA, and FMCSA standards.
- Coordinate with drivers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve equipment issues and prioritize maintenance schedules.
- Document all repairs, inspections, and PMs in fleet management software (e.g., Holman, FM Live, Holman Garage Management system).
- Maintain accurate records of parts used, services performed, and compliance certifications.
- Support vehicle commissioning, branding installation, safety equipment checks, and telematics systems integration.
- Lead by example in enforcing CoServ safety protocols, vehicle cleanliness, and operational standards.
- Provide field service support during after-hours breakdowns, including tire, fuel, or mechanical failures.
- Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
- Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities
- Assist in training junior technicians on safe maintenance practices and hydraulic equipment diagnostics.
- Attend external Terex factory training as needed.
- Participate in aerial unit dielectric and structural testing and maintain updated inspection records.
- Assist with vendor coordination for outsourced repairs and warranty claims.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Fleet PM programs and data accuracy.
- Attends CoServ University training as required.
- Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Position Requirements
Education, Experience, and Certifications Required
- High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
- Completion of Terex factory training or equivalent OEM service training.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in utility fleet maintenance including hydraulic systems on aerial lift trucks and diggers.
- Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, shop equipment, and fleet management software.
- Five (5) year operating Electric or Gas utility vehicles.
- Five (5) year operating other field equipment, such as trenching equipment, vacuum equipment, hole digging equipment, aerial lifts, etc.
Education, Experience, and Certifications Preferred
- 7+ years' operating and maintaining electric or gas utility vehicles and related equipment.
- Fluid Power Society certification or equivalent hydraulic systems certification.
- Experience with Genie, JLG, and related aerial lift platforms.
- Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and PHMSA compliance requirements.
Skills and Abilities Required
- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in hydraulics, mechanics, and electronics.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and repair manuals.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in the field.
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, fleet software, diagnostic apps).
- Ability to work flexible hours including emergency callouts and overnight travel.
Skills and Abilities Preferred
- Knowledge of Texas motor vehicle and commercial fleet regulations.
- Experience mentoring or training entry-level technicians.
Physical Requirements
- Works both in the field and shop environments; subject to hot/cold outdoor conditions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, crawl under/over vehicles, and work at heights.
- Drives company vehicles for road calls and inspections.
- Operates diagnostic tools, hydraulic lifts, laptops, and shop equipment.
- Tolerance to noise, grease, chemicals, and exposure to wildlife and insects at work sites.
Other Requirements
- Must reside within 30 miles of operational service territory or as otherwise specified.
- Willingness to work weekends or holidays in response to fleet emergencies.
- Must maintain a clean driving record and pass background and drug screenings.
- Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
- Ability to acquire CDL driver’s License.
