Job Summary
The responsibilities of the Assistant Project Manager include assisting and managing automation and panel assembly projects across industrial and municipal sectors. The ideal candidate will have a background in automation, controls engineering, and project lifecycle management and will serve as the liaison between internal teams and clients.
- Manage projects from initiation to close-out, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget compliance.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, programmers, panel, and field technicians.
- Assist with the design, integration, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems (PLC, DCS, HMI, SCADA).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and regulatory agencies.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and control system documentation.
- Prepare project documentation, including schedules, status reports, change orders, and cost estimates.
- Enforce company standards and contribute to the development of PLC/DCS control standards.
- Support procurement of instrumentation and control equipment and manage vendor relationships.
- Participate in field activities, including system testing, startup, troubleshooting, and training.
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff and technicians.

Requirements
- Full-Time hourly position requiring 40+ hrs. a week
- Strong attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines
- Understanding of control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS) and process automation.
- Experience with major PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Phoenix Contact, Schneider, etc.).
- Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with Oil/Natural Gas, Water/Wastewater, Agriculture, or Food Processing environments.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel regionally to client sites as needed.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred:
- PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification.
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP).
- Knowledge of industry standards, including ISA, NFPA, and NEC.
- Experience writing or enforcing PLC/DCS control standards.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to travel from 25-50%
- Ability to lift and transport items weighing up to 25 lbs
- Ability to sustain a level of physical activity, including walking, climbing, bending, and sitting
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow company procedures and manufacturers' guidelines
- Requires the ability to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance on the job
- Valid active driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle
- Ability to pass all random DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing
