The Lead IT Engineer – POS & Payments is a technical leader responsible for the architecture, implementation, and support of mission-critical systems that enable retail transactions across physical physical store locations, ensuring seamless integration with payment platforms, high system availability, and secure, efficient processing of customer purchases. This role leads engineering efforts by ensuring performance, security, and scalability, while mentoring team members and driving strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Lead the design and development of POS and payment system architectures, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and business goals.
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for POS and payment technologies, guiding engineering best practices and technical decision-making.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
System Engineering & Integration
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of POS hardware/software, payment gateways, and related integrations (e.g., loyalty, tax, fraud prevention).
Operational Excellence
- Drive incident resolution and root cause analysis for complex system issues.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning strategies to ensure high availability and reliability.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure systems are compliant with PCI-DSS and other regulatory standards.
- Ensure third-party providers implement secure payment practices, including encryption, tokenization, and secure APIs.
Project & Vendor Management
- Lead technical workstreams in cross-functional projects, including new store rollouts, payment method expansions, and system upgrades.
- Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers to evaluate, implement, and support POS/payment solutions.
This position requires authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This role does not allow for 100% remote work. Qualified out of state candidates must be willing to relocate and will need to live within a daily commutable distance of Casey's Store Support Center in Ankeny, IA and be willing to work onsite 5 days a week.
Compensation:
Starting pay range: $114,000 - $156,800. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for annual cash bonuses based on company performance. Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the typical hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.
