We’re looking for a confident, collaborative HR Advisor to join our team and play a key role in supporting our people across the network. As one of four first points of contact for HR queries, you’ll provide expert guidance and hands-on support across the full employee lifecycle.
You’ll be experienced in advising on disciplinary, grievance, and absence management cases, bringing clarity and professionalism to sensitive situations while supporting managers and colleagues with confidence and care.

What you’ll be doing:
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with managers to support performance management, employee relations, and staff development, ensuring fair and consistent outcomes aligned with company policy and employment law.
The HR Advisor will be a key point of contact for guidance on conduct, capability, health, attendance, grievances, and complaints, helping managers navigate sensitive cases with confidence and care.
You’ll provide clear, practical advice on the application of HR policies and procedures, promoting consistency and compliance across the organisation.
A core part of your remit will involve working with HR colleagues to review and update policies, ensuring they reflect current legislation and best practice.
Employees will look to you for support in understanding their rights and entitlements, and you’ll ensure they receive accurate, accessible information throughout their employment journey.
By aligning HR support with business goals, you’ll help drive organisational performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
This position also includes supporting union engagement, fostering constructive relationships with staff representatives and contributing to a collaborative working environment.
You’ll be responsible for maintaining HR systems, ensuring records are accurate and up to date, and escalating issues appropriately when needed.
Confidential meetings will form part of your routine, where you’ll take detailed notes and update employee files with discretion and precision.
Building strong relationships with managers and teams will be essential, as you act as a proactive communicator and strategic partner in driving business performance.
Finally, you’ll be encouraged to identify opportunities for positive change, recommending improvements that enhance employee experience and support the wider organisational strategy.
What you’ll bring:
This individual will ideally hold a CIPD qualification or will be working towards it as well as GCSE Maths and English grade C/ 4 or above.
You will need to have had experience working within a HR advisory capacity, supporting managers in ER meetings whilst also providing guidance and advice to managers and staff across the organisation as well as experience of managing disciplinaries and grievances including dismissal and absence management.
Strong knowledge in of HR Policies and HR best practice is essential for this role, as well as experience working with the full range of the employee lifecycle.
This individual will ideally have experience working with Trade Unions and any experience or knowledge of the rail/ travel sector would be highly advantageous but not essential.
You will need to have up-to-date working knowledge and proven application of employment legislation.
Any experience of change programmes including TUPE or restructuring would be highly advantageous.
This individual will need to have had proven experience of using a HR Information System.
You will need excellent communication skills and attention to detail as well as the ability to work flexibly and efficiently, as well as the ability to manage/ resolve conflicts with strong interpersonal skills.
