Job Description

Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking a qualified and dedicated full-time Physics faculty member in the Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) area, beginning Spring 2026. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator who demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, a deep commitment to student success, and the ability to inspire and engage students in a way that fosters a transformative educational experience. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a multi-cultural student-focused two-year institution consisting of students with diverse learning abilities. Important qualities expected in the candidate include strong verbal and written communication skills, experience working with students of different backgrounds, and a commitment to the community college mission. 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Teaches courses related to Physics and Engineering with a minimum of 30 semester hours per academic year. 
  • Teaches a varied schedule that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections at any of the MC campuses or at area high schools in various delivery modes: face-to-face, on-line, hybrid/blended on a regular 10-month schedule. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes. 
  • Designs, implements, manages, and assesses courses taught in a variety of modes.   
  • Accommodates students with varying backgrounds and learning styles. 
  • Delivers assigned courses in accordance with the College catalog descriptions, common course syllabi, and any stipulations stated by the College and the Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) area. 
  • Maintains standards of teaching that are consistent with the high standards expected by the College and the SET area. 
  • Each faculty member is expected to participate in activities relating to college programs, courses, governance, committees, etc., or community activities which impact the college and contribute to the growth and development of students, the college, and the community. 
  • Advise, tutor, and mentor students. 
  • Participate in student club activities.  
  • Be an effective student advocate for career opportunities (e.g., Internships, Scholarships, transfer) 
  • Proactively seek scholarship/ research or internship opportunities for students.
  • Each faculty member is expected to stay current in their field and continue to grow and develop as an educator to increase knowledge and enhance teaching ability. 
  • Pursue continuous professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • A master's degree in physics, engineering, or a related field
  • Experience teaching Physics courses at the College level. 
  • Experience designing and/or setting up hands-on labs. 
  • Demonstrable skills appropriate to teach online, Distance Learning, and/or Hybrid classes 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficient use of the MS Office suite of software. 
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • PhD Degree in Physics, Engineering or related field 
  • Recent, within the last 5 years, experience teaching calculus-based physics at the college-level.
  • Experience teaching dual enrollment or early college students. 
  • Experience with developing and running Physics, Engineering, and Astronomy outreach events. 
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.  
  • Experience with programming and developing programming-based assignments and/or projects, experience with MATLAB/Mathematica a plus
  • Experience with student research and writing grant proposals.

 Hiring Range: $63,254 - $96,299.
