Full-Time Lifeguard
We're seeking a dedicated, certified lifeguard to provide professional aquatic supervision and emergency response services. This role offers the opportunity to work in a faith-based, community-focused environment where safety, service, and our core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith guide everything we do.

What You'll Do
Safety & Supervision
- Maintain active, vigilant surveillance of all pool areas during recreational swimming, fitness classes, swim lessons, and team practices
- Respond immediately to emergency situations following established protocols and the "safe-in-six" emergency response model
- Enforce safety rules and aquatic policies in a professional, courteous, and firm manner
- Conduct regular safety inspections and hazard assessments of pool facilities
Member Experience
- Engage positively with members and program participants, creating a welcoming atmosphere
- Provide clear, respectful communication with swimmers of all skill levels
- Support various aquatic programs including swimming lessons, water fitness classes, and competitive swim team activities
Facility Operations
- Monitor and maintain proper pool chemical levels and mechanical equipment
- Perform opening and closing procedures, ensuring facility security
- Assist with pool maintenance and cleaning duties to maintain pristine facility standards
- Complete accurate incident and maintenance reports as required
Professional Development
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and continuing education training sessions
- Collaborate effectively with aquatics team members and other YMCA staff
- Mentor and support new lifeguards during onboarding process
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age 18
- Current lifeguard certification (YMCA of the USA or American Red Cross)
- Current certifications in: Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, and Oxygen Administration
- Clean background check (required for all employees 18+)
- Strong swimming ability and demonstrated rescue skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous lifeguarding or aquatics experience
- Basic knowledge of pool chemistry and maintenance
- Customer service experience
- Experience working with diverse populations

- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain focus during extended surveillance periods
- Strong communication skills with ability to project voice effectively across pool areas
- Quick decision-making and calm performance under pressure
- Physical stamina for extended periods of sitting, standing, and potential water rescues
- Team player mentality with commitment to collaborative work environment
Training & Certification Opportunities

Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform lifeguard skills test including endurance events and rescue demonstrations
- Capability to lift up to 25 lbs. and assist with emergency extractions from pool
- Excellent vision and hearing for surveillance and emergency response
- Comfort working in humid, wet conditions with exposure to pool chemicals
- Mobility to move quickly around pool deck and elevated lifeguard stations
