JOB PURPOSE

 

Responsible individual joins a newly formed production team dedicated to manufacturing primers for small arms ammunition.  Employee is focused on the production, storage, and movement of energetic substances and mixtures.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Safe Operation Always:

  • Learns and applies safety principles for explosive operations.
    • Participates in and successfully completes all safety, work, and other training sessions.
    • Understands and follows safety practices.
    • Understands and follows process instructions.
  • Creates and maintains a safe and efficient workplace.
    • Uses proper techniques for energetic and other materials to successfully:
      • Process by chemical and physical means.
      • Manipulate by hand and remote means.
      • Transport to various plant locations.
    • Consults and coordinates with Explosives Lead and Plant Manager to recover from upset conditions.

 

Accuracy and Careful Attention to Detail:

  • Prepares solutions and other materials used in energetic synthesis.
  • Monitors explosive synthesis via remote camera and computer logic systems.
  • Observes attentively for normal and abnormal process and equipment conditions.
  • Uses, maintains, and calibrates moisture balance, pH systems, and scales.
  • Makes immediate and correct inventory logs in storage magazine, reporting software, and MRP system.

 

Quality Assurance:

  • Communicates quickly with Explosives Lead regarding problems, mistakes, questions, and concerns.
  • Suggests changes to processes and procedures to improve safety, productivity, and quality.

 

Cleanliness:

  • Keeps workstations organized and free from unnecessary items and clutter.
  • Keeps workstations clear of loose explosives and other materials.
  • Disposes scrap material according to procedures.
  • Cleans work areas and equipment at regular intervals.
  • Participates in shift-end cleaning.
  • Participates in cleaning of common areas.

 

Adheres to all company safety, production, and workforce policies.

 

Performs all other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Has college degree preferred, but not required.
  • Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Is at least 21 years of age.
  • Acquires a BATFE-issued Employee Possessor Letter of Clearance (employer will assist with application).
  • Has experience with energetic materials or chemical handling and processing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word, or related software.
  • Communicates well verbally and in writing.
  • Organizes well and attends to details.
  • Manages time well and demonstrates ability to meet deadlines.
  • Functions well in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Prioritizes tasks and delegates them when appropriate.
  • Analyzes and solves problems effectively.
  • Stands and moves for extended periods of time.
  • Works well with team members.
  • Asks questions to seek instruction.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • There are two breaks and one meal break, exact timing dependent on process conditions.
  • The work area is air conditioned indoors with elevated humidity and outdoors.
  • Wet floors are common from frequent washing and for humidification.
  • There are security protocols and access restrictions.
  • Some workstations can be adjusted for personal preference, such as height.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Walking indoors and outdoors and extended periods of standing, with some sitting, indoors.
  • Lifting to 50 pounds.
  • Wearing respiratory protection, such as dust masks and powered air purifying respirators.
