Purpose of Role

 

The Generation Gold - Geotechnical and Rock Mechanics Engineer-in-Training is a Kinross program that will provide recent (within 1 year) graduates of a relevant discipline with unmatched in the field experience in both open pit and underground mining operations. It will consist of 2 x 18-month rotations at our sites in the USA.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Support the site geotechnical engineers in implementing best practices in geotechnical engineering.
  • Assist with mine designs, dewatering, and mining operations to ensure safety and achieve business objectives.
  • Carry out geotechnical/geological inspections, mapping, and documentation.
  • Supervise and work with drilling and geotechnical instrumentation installations.
  • Collect, process, analyze and model geotechnical/geological characteristics of the various rock mass for support of the surface and underground mine.
  • Process, analyze, and model data to understand the rock mass and its response to mining for purposes of excavation stability, mine design optimization, mine performance, and design compliance.
  • Aid in development of geotechnical design criteria to support safe and optimal mine operations.
  • Aid in management and installation of mine-wide geotechnical monitoring systems.
  • Geotechnical and geological database management.
  • Assist in the preparation of the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly monitoring reports.
  • Assist with continuous improvements in drilling and blast designs, ensuring compliance with mining regulations and site standards.
  • Support and advise planning and operations personnel on geotechnical issues in the pit.
  • Provide comprehensive and timely contributions to daily and weekly production meetings.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Punctuality and regular attendance required. 

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in geological engineering, geology, mining or civil engineering is required.
  • General understanding of mining operations, ability to be a team player, with interest in a dynamic open pit and underground mining environment
  • Working knowledge and skill with computers utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the Technical Services team.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, clients, and consultants.
  • Requires valid driver’s license.
