Summary:

The School Adjustment Counselor works to support a safe and welcoming learning environment for students. The School Adjustment Counselor position supports students with many issues, such as social/emotional, substance use/abuse, academic, and post-graduate planning, through the use of counseling, consulting, coordinating, and managing.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, guidance, social work, psychology or related field
  • Appropriate DESE licensure (School Adjustment Counselor)
  • At least three years of experience working with adolescents in a counseling capacity
  • Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Understanding of special education regulations and laws
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use technology effectively
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with numerous stakeholders


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):

  • Help students resolve such personal, emotional, and social problems that impede learning.
  • Conduct social skill development groups, individual, or group counseling.
  • Provide case management and crisis intervention for students in need
  • Provide services to students as outlined in individual education plan (IEPs) or 504 plans
  • Collaborate with staff members on developing interventions for students in need
  • Support the development of programs and activities that promote student engagement and a positive school climate
  • Complete all required paperwork in accordance with district/school policies and federal and state law.
  • Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed

  • Majority of work is performed in a school environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to assist with student behavioral needs as necessary
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
