Contract: 203 Day (eleven days prior and ten days following the standard 182-day contract)

GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Digital Teaching & Learning Director, the Digital Teaching & Learning Specialist for media serves as a key resource in supporting, training, and collaborating with teachers, administrators, media aides, and library technology specialists to effectively integrate educational technology across the curriculum. This position plays a crucial role in researching, implementing, and evaluating digital teaching and learning strategies to enhance instruction and student outcomes, with an emphasis on literacy in WSD secondary schools, particularly within libraries and media centers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support and Training:
- Design and lead comprehensive professional development programs to enhance educators' proficiency in educational technology, digital pedagogy, and innovative instructional practices.
- Provide ongoing, personalized support to School Library Technology Specialists (LTS), teachers and administrators in implementing digital tools and strategies across various content areas.
- Collaborate with school-based teams to integrate technology effectively into curriculum and instruction.
- Research and Implementation:
- Stay abreast of current research and trends in educational technology, sharing insights with district stakeholders.
- Evaluate and recommend digital tools, platforms, and resources that align with district goals and curriculum standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of district-wide digital teaching and learning initiatives.
- Collaboration and Leadership:
- Work closely with district Library Technology Specialists to ensure cohesive integration of digital resources and information literacy skills.
- Facilitate teacher focus groups, department chair meetings, and advisory committees related to educational technology.
- Participate in and lead Digital Teaching & Learning meetings, including LTS meetings, PLCs, and edtech coach training.
- AI, Digital Citizenship, and District Initiatives:
- Develop and implement programs to support responsible AI use and digital citizenship across the district.
- Train educators on the ethical considerations and practical applications of AI in education.
- Create resources and curricula to promote digital literacy and online safety among students.
- Create resources, deliver training, and provide support for other top priority district initiatives.
- Data and Assessment:
- Support teachers in using digital tools for formative and summative assessments.
- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of digital learning data to inform instructional decisions.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of digital learning initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
- Curriculum and Instruction:
- Collaborate with content specialists to ensure seamless integration of technology into various subject areas.
- Support the selection and adaptation of digital content and materials aligned with learning goals and standards.
- Promote the use of technology to differentiate instruction and meet diverse student needs.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Utah secondary teaching license
- Minimum of five years of successful instructional experience in a public school setting
- Minimum of five years as an LTS (formerly school library media specialist)
- USBE Educational Technology Endorsement (or Master’s Degree Equivalent) or be willing to obtain it within two academic years from date of hire
- Demonstrated expertise in educational technology integration, digital pedagogy and school literacy initiatives
- Strong understanding of current educational research and data-driven decision-making
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Proficiency in a wide range of educational technologies and digital platforms
- Experience in adult learning and professional development facilitation
- Knowledge of AI applications in education and digital citizenship principles
- Valid Utah Driver's license
This position requires travel between district locations using their own transportation (will reimburse for mileage). The incumbent is expected to maintain professional ethics, adhere to district policies, and complete all mandatory training. Other duties may be assigned as needed by the administrator.
