Chief Carriers is seeking a Safety Specialist to join the Chief team. This position will be monitoring trucking, safety, and equipment operations at any of Chief Carriers’ terminals according to DOT regulations and Chief Carriers standards.  Will coordinate with Maintenance, Safety and Operations departments at Rensselaer terminal for daily lot checks, equipment inventory, walk-around safety/securement inspections. Coach and assist drivers on load securement, according to the company securement manual.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform walk-around, safety lane inspections on all inbound equipment. Document and communicate any defects to Maintenance Director for direction.
  • Transport and monitor status of equipment at off-site maintenance/repair facility.
  • Inspect preloaded trailers, discuss concerns with shipping for corrections.
  • Coach drivers as needed with loads, discuss securement concerns in a positive manner.
  • Conduct daily truck/trailer lot checks (morning and afternoon).  Email to designated team members.
  • Maintain inventory of all securement equipment, dunnage, tarps, and fluids.  Document which truck(s) it was used for.
  • Lead by example – embrace Chief safety culture.
  • Monitor Safety programs/ Red hats candidates.  Work with Safety to update company securement manual.
  • Maintain office and grounds.
  • Assist Operations with delivery of customer freight when needed. 

Education:

  • High School Diploma, or GED, preferred 

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • Must have current CDL and clean driving record.
  • Prior experience in leadership or supervisory role is a plus
  • Ability to pass DOT physical and drug screen
