Primary Purpose: Provide vision, leadership and management of the district’s athletic program. Ensure that all students have equitable opportunities to participate in extracurricular athletics, while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. Oversee program compliance with state, University Interscholastic League (UIL) and district policies.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university preferred Valid Texas Teaching Certificate preferred Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certificate preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data Ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate District functions Strong communication, collaboration and relationship-building skills with students, staff, families and community partners Experience Five years successful teaching and coaching experience Head coach experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Direct and manage the District's athletic program and facilities.
Establish and verify academic and physical eligibility requirements for student-athlete participation.
Foster a positive, inclusive athletic culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership and personal growth.
Use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
Manage district athletic operations by overseeing scheduling, ticketing, officials, facility preparation, and event logistics, including transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
Oversee equipment and fixed asset management, including cleaning, repair, storage, inventory, and recommendations for disposal or replacement.
Coordinate the use of all athletic facilities by non-school groups in compliance with district policy.
Plan, organize, and supervise all athletic awards programs.
Implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
Maintain open, proactive communication with parents, students and staff regarding athletic expectations and concerns.
Ensure compliance with federal and state law, UIL regulations, and district policy in all athletic activities. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records and other documents required.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Develop, compile and administer the athletic budget based on documented program needs, ensuring programs are cost-effective and funds are managed responsibly.
Develop and update job descriptions for the athletic department
Work with principals and Human Resources in athletic department staffing, including recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, evaluation and personnel recommendations.
Develop training options and/or improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary operations.
Collaborate with parent and community support organizations in alignment with district policy
Ensure athletic programs align with the District’s Strategic Plan, wellness initiatives and academic goals.
Articulate the district’s athletic mission and goals to families and the community, building strong partnerships to support student success.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate the performance of athletic complex staff, athletic coordinators, athletic trainers, coaches, and support staff.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Work may include extended hours, evenings, weekends and frequent travel. Position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
