Summary
Under general supervision, the Human Resources (HR) Assistant provides clerical, administrative, and technical support to the HR Department. This position is essential to the department’s daily operations, assisting with records management, public information requests, benefits processing, training and event support, risk management activities, recruitment, onboarding, and customer service. Serving as a first point of contact for employees and the public, the HR Assistant helps ensure efficient service delivery while supporting compliance programs and departmental initiatives.
Position Duties
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Assists with new hire orientation paperwork and packet preparation.
- Creates and issues employee ID badges.
- Coordinates pre-employment steps including background check support, reference checks, and scheduling.
- Assists with job postings and job description classification updates.
- Processes Personnel Change Notices (PCNs) as needed.
- Prepares and organizes materials for job fairs, recruitment events, and department-hosted programs.
Benefits & Employee Programs
- Assists with enrollment processing and billing reconciliation for medical, dental, vision, life, Aflac, and other supplemental benefits.
- Provides customer service to employees regarding benefits questions and enrollment.
- Helps coordinate Lunch & Learns, benefit enrollment meetings, and open enrollment support.
- Assists with benefit education and wellness initiatives.
Records Management & Compliance
- Maintains HR files, records, and databases in compliance with County standards.
- Assists with processing and responding to Public Information Requests.
- Supports annual driver’s license verification and compliance tracking.
- Logs and tracks claims, accident reports, and incidents; follows up on missing or incomplete documentation.
- Assists with scheduling and documenting safety trainings.
Training & Events
- Prepares packets and materials for monthly trainings and orientations.
- Ensures training supplies and refreshments are stocked.
- Sets up training rooms with sign-in sheets, handouts, and technology checks.
- Scans and maintains training attendance records.
Customer Service & General HR Support
- Greets walk-in visitors and answers general inquiries.
- Maintains monthly HR reports and supports HR Data recording.
- Provides support for HR-hosted events and staff engagement initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- One (1) year of clerical or administrative experience required; experience in HR or public sector preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered to meet the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
Other Qualifications
- Class C driver’s license.
