Substance Use Disorder Professional or Trainee (SUDP/T).
Work as a SUDP/T is performed under close supervision, and the employee will have limited independence and latitude to apply judgment and initiative. These limitations will be required until the incumbent demonstrates the ability to understand and apply judgment within the guidelines of accepted substance usage disorder counseling practices and the policies and procedures of the Kitsap Recovery Center. Work is inspected and reviewed frequently, and assignments are made to assure the proscribed training program is completed successfully.
Position Duties
- Must be a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP), registered in good standing with the Washington State Department of Health, with six months case management experience in a substance usage disorder, mental or behavioral health treatment environment. Six months Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) experience as an employee of Kitsap Recovery Center will be accepted as equivalent to the required six months case management experience.
- SUDPT applicants must have completed all educational requirements towards advancement and attainment of the Washington State Substance Use Disorder Professional Certification and must have completed at least 450 hours of substance usage disorder training in accordance with the standards of Washington Administrative Code 246.811.030.
- Applicants with Bachelor's degrees are preferred.
- The successful incumbent will or may have unsupervised access to children under 18 years of age, a vulnerable adult, or a vulnerable person, or access to a secured/confidential facility or computer system(s). As a result, Kitsap County will be conducting an extensive criminal background check by law enforcement agencies, which may include fingerprinting.

- Provide a copy of Washington State Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) certification or documentation of training hours completed and a copy of Washington State Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) certification.
- Pass a criminal background check through law enforcement agencies.
- Submit official transcripts from an accredited college or university if education is being used to meet the minimum qualifications.
- Declare understanding of and willingness to comply with the requirement that there be no misuse of alcohol or drugs while employed at Kitsap Recovery Center.
- Complete Bloodborne/Airborne Pathogens training and receive Hepatitis B vaccine or sign a waiver
- Complete a Tuberculosis Test (and yearly thereafter)
- Work may be performed at the Recovery Center, which is a 24-hour, 7 day per week facility, at the outpatient facility, or in the field. Outreach may occure at shelters, hospitals, or in the home where conditions are unpredictable. The incumbent may be required to work over 40 hours in a week and may be exposed to physical and environmental hazards while working with high-risk clients with a potential for violence.
- Adequate vision is necessary when preparing logs and observing clients.
- Position requires frequent sitting, standing and walking through the work area, occasional pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds.
- Speaking/talking on the telephone and in-person is required during frequent contact/communication with the public, patients, program graduates and other departments.
- Some holiday and overtime work may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with participants.
- Lead discussions and presents lectures and films for group sessions, including, but not limited to, the disease process of chemical dependency, physiological effects of alcohol and other drugs, family dynamics, recovery, etc.
- Maintain accurate and current records on each participant in accordance with the agency procedure for participant records including intake data, treatment plans, treatment plan updates, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Connect participants with local resources.
- Perform case management duties related to compliance with other entities the participant is working with.
- Maintain partnerships with other agencies.
- Attend meetings and discuss client progress with involved services.
- Follow up with referrals for outreach and determine the next course of action, which could include but is not limited to performing a field SUD assessment.
