About the role
The Civil Maintenance Plant Operations role forms part of the Roads and Maintenance workforce who complete the daily maintenance of Wyndham’s assets including roads, road reserves, and other locations and provide a rapid response service as required.
You will be responsible for the care of plant, tools, and equipment, as well as being vigilant to the needs of the community whilst operating plant and equipment. You will also report any observed road maintenance issues (e.g. potholes, missing pit lids, apply absorbent to spills etc.) that may need reactive attention.
We are currently recruiting to fill two roles, with the specifics listed below:
Role 1 – Dumped Litter Crew
Primarily required to operate within the litter team to provide large scale illegal dumping removal within the municipality. Backhoe and heavy vehicle experience is essential.
Role 2 - Grading Crew
Primarily required to operate within the grading team for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of Wyndham City Council's unsealed road network. Grader operator experience preferred but not essential.
What your day will look like
· Operating vehicles and small plant (demolition saw, compactor plate, etc.)
· Performing daily maintenance of vehicle and plant
· Providing traffic control for other crews, as required
· Monitoring and reporting to the Team Leader/Area Leader items of vehicular maintenance
· Supporting our bylaws and management in reducing illegal dumping and deposits of material on roads, e.g. report rubbish with identification before removal to allow prosecution
· Taking pride in enhancing the appearance of the municipality
· Providing a positive personal contribution to the successful operation of the roads and Maintenance department
What you will bring
· A current Victorian Drivers licence including Truck licence (Minimum HR)
· Backhoe license (Desirable)
· Certificate Spotters Registration (Desirable)
· Level 2 First Aid (Desirable)
· Competency in the use of small plant
· Ability to understand and work to a schedule and plans
· Demonstrated understanding of OH&S including manual handling
· Sound interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written, including experience in a customer service environment
· Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
· Traffic control skills
· Experience in bituminous pavement maintenance
